147 cases of COVID-19 linked to the outbreak of the Mega Fitness Gym in Quebec

                                2021-04-01 | Updated April 2, 2021

147 people have contracted COVID-19 following an outbreak at the 24-hour Mega Fitness Gym in Quebec, the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale said on Friday.

The CIUSSSCN revised its results upwards, because on Thursday it stood at 141 cases. This number has therefore more than tripled compared to the beginning of the week since there were then about forty. This figure is also much higher than the number of cases linked to the outbreak of bar Kirouac in Quebec City last September , which stood at more than 80.

More than twenty workplaces are also grappling with outbreaks linked to the 24-hour Mega Fitness Gym, according to public health.

The training room has been closed since Wednesday since public health ordered the closure of the establishment after observing serious breaches of health measures. In addition, many customers in the room who contracted COVID-19 told Radio-Canada that health instructions were not followed to the letter within the establishment.

Tuesday, a visit to the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale had made it possible to observe several infractions at the 24-hour Mega Fitness Gym, including the lack of attendance and non-compliance with social distancing.

Earlier this week, gym patrons who had attended the facility since March 14 were urged to take a drug test after a person suspected of having a variant of COVID-19 used the installations.
