    'We are losing the battle': As COVID-19 numbers surge, over 300 Sask. doctors sign letter calling for more action

    SASKATOON -- In a letter addressed to Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and the province's top medical official Dr. Saqib Shahab, more than 300 doctors are calling for "leadership" in the face of rising numbers of COVID-19 cases.

    "Saskatoon ICUs are at 130 per cent capacity and are diverting patients. It is becoming increasingly clear to us, physicians from across Saskatchewan, that we are losing the battle against this virus," the letter says.

    "If more is not done to change our course we are confident that winter will bring overflowing hospitals, cancelled surgeries, overwhelmed healthcare providers, and needless deaths."...

    REGINA -- Saskatchewan reported 111 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the province to 1,459 active cases.

    In a news release the province said it is currently considering "additional public health measures" which Dr. Saqib Shahab will announce on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

    There are currently 49 people in hospital in Saskatchewan. There are 36 people receiving inpatient care. Thirteen people are in the ICU including one in the northwest, two in the north central zone, seven in Saskatoon, two in the central east and one in Regina...

      REGINA -- The Saskatchewan government has announced 181 new cases of COVID-19 and 60 new recoveries.

      In a news release on Monday, the province said 68 people are in hospital. There are 52 people in inpatient care and 16 people in intensive care.

      There are 41 new cases in the Saskatoon area, 32 in the Regina area and 18 in the north central area, which includes Prince Albert...

        Saskatchewan brings in province-wide mask mandate, limits gatherings to 5

        With coronavirus cases continuing to surge, Saskatchewan is expanding its mask mandate to cover the entire province and further restricting social gatherings, setting a new lower cap of five people.

        The province announced the new measures in a press release Tuesday, as officials reported 240 new infections — the second highest single-day total to date.

        The new measures come into effect Thursday and will be in place until at least Dec. 17, when they are subject to review by the province’s chief medical health officer...

          Saskatchewan reports 32nd death as active coronavirus cases, hospitalizations climb

          Saskatchewan reported its 32nd coronavirus-related death as it gave an update on new cases on Wednesday.

          The deceased who tested positive for COVID-19 was in their 60s and was from the north east zone, according to a press release.

          Health officials said there were 132 new cases in the daily update, with the overall total for the province growing to 5,553 since the first case was reported in March. One infection was deemed out-of-province and removed from Saskatchewan’s total cases.

          According to a press release, most of the new cases are located in the Saskatoon zone with 56, while there are 18 in Regina, 10 in north central, eight each in far north central and south east, six each in far north east and north west, four each in north east and south central, two in south west and the rest in far north west and central west. Residence information is still pending for eight new infections.

          In the province, 76 people are currently in hospital with COVID-19 — 59 are receiving inpatient care and 17 are in intensive care. This is the highest amount of hospitalizations to date...

            ‘Drastic increase’ in COVID-19 cases likely for Saskatoon: researchers

            A University of Saskatchewan (USask) research team says an imminent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in Saskatoon is likely in the next seven days.

            Markus Brinkmann, a USask toxicologist, is expecting an average of 100 to 150 new cases daily in Saskatoon.

            “Numbers of copies of SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA in the wastewater have been climbing,” Brinkmann said.

            “We expect another drastic increase this week and potentially ranging into next week...

            Saskatchewan public health officials announced 98 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, pushing the total of known active cases in the province to 2,066.

            Recent weather may have impacted the number of new cases found.

            "Weather and logistical impediments resulted in a volume of specimens reaching the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory after the reporting period for November 19," the province said in a news release.

            Twenty-five of the new cases were from the Regina area, 14 are from the south central region, 12 cases each were from the north central and north west regions, while 10 of the cases were from the Saskatoon region.

            The north east, south east and central east regions each have five new cases. The far north east has three new cases, the far north west has two and one new case was announced in the central west zone.

            Four of the new cases have pending location information...

                The Saskatchewan government says four more people who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

                The deaths include a person in their 60s from the far north east zone, a person older than 80 from the north west zone, a person in their 60s from the north central zone and a person in their 70s from the Saskatoon zone.

                The four deaths reported Monday brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 37. The provincial Ministry of Health says COVID-19 is recorded as the cause of death when the disease directly caused or is assumed to have caused or contributed to a person's death.

                Saskatchewan announced 235 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of known active cases in the province to 2,864...

                        The latest deaths, announced Friday, bring the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the province to 44.

                        Three of the deaths involved people in the 80 and over age group, from the north central, Regina and southeast zones. The fourth death involved a person in their 70s from the south central zone.

                        The province also reported 329 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, 3,263 of which are considered active.

                          Saskatchewan reported 351 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the provincial caseload to 8,239.

                          Far North West: 10
                          Far North Central: 1
                          Far North East: 8
                          North West: 28
                          North Central: 10
                          North East: 12

                          Regina: 120
                          South West: 19
                          South Central: 10
                          South East: 18

                          The location of four cases remains pending.

                          The seven-day average of daily cases rose to 250 on Sunday, up from 234 on Saturday. That translates to about 20.6 new cases per 100,000 people.

                          Hospitalizations continue to rise along with cases.

                          On Sunday, the province reported a record-high of COVID-19 hospitalizations. There are 115 people in the hospital, with 23 people in the ICU, which is also a record high...
