The case of Bean Narong flu infection is the first case after this disease, there are no new cases in Cambodia during Nine years ago.

Following the discovery of the case, public health experts found that the girl's father was also infected with the H5N1 bird flu. Health experts confirmed that he contracted the disease on February 23. His daughter died of H5N1 bird flu on Feb. 22, a day after she was diagnosed with the H5N1 virus. There are serious effects on the respiratory tract, according to the World Health Organization.

Bien Vorn was treated at the District Referral Hospital after he was diagnosed with bird flu and left the hospital. Doctors on February 28 after his third negative result. This is according to the people in Roleang village and the announcement of the Department of Combating Infectious Diseases.

However, in Roleang village on 28 February, Prey Veng provincial health workers continued to take samples of students in the village. Then take the test. Health workers present in the village said that continuing to monitor the bird flu situation in the village will Use for 14 days.

A statement from the Department of Communicable Diseases on March 2, posted on Facebook, explained that there were no cases of H5N1 infection. More to be found. And so far no evidence of human-to-human transmission has been found. The statement said that based on the investigation of the two cases found in Roleang village, there was a conflict with Birds get sick and die the same way, and their symptoms start the same day.

In a separate statement, the Department of Infectious Diseases said that the H5N1 bird flu virus had erupted in Roleang village, Romlech commune. Sithor Kandal is a virus that has been studied among domestic and wild birds in Cambodia during recent years. The H5N1 bird flu virus, dubbed (clade 2.3.2.1c), differs from the H5N1 bird flu virus in other parts of the world. This is according to the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of Cambodia.

Human-to-human transmission of bird flu was first reported in Cambodia in 2014. According to the World Health Organization, based on the available evidence so far, bird flu virus is not easily transmitted to humans. No, and that person-to-person transmission is not uncommon.

However, the World Health Organization warns that because the virus continues to be found in birds, the virus could spread from person to person. Animals on humans can be expected to continue to occur.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are no new cases in this village. The Ministry also confirmed

Centers for Disease Control provides update on H5N1 Bird Flu in Cambodia
19 mins ago - BREAKING NEWS

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases have provided updated results of a preliminary assessment of the H5N1 viruses identified in two human infections detected in Cambodia in 2023 based on their genetic sequences and gives an update on the epidemiological investigation.

On February 26, 2023, the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge, in collaboration with the Cambodian Ministry of Health, shared the full genetic sequence of the H5N1 virus recovered from the patient who died in that country on February 22, 2023.

The genetic sequence of the second case was later also shared by the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge. CDC has conducted a preliminary analysis of the genetic sequences of these H5N1 bird flu viruses.

They are H5N1 viruses from clade 2.3.2.1c, which are different from the H5N1 viruses now spreading in U.S. wild birds and poultry, which are from clade 2.3.4.4b. These viruses are similar to past 2.3.2.1c viruses detected in that geographic area over recent years...

Health Ministry Spokesman Dismisses Rumors That H5N1 Bird Flu Case In Cambodia Is Human-To-Human Transmission

    Release DateMarch 02, 2023

    AKP Phnom Penh, March 03, 2023 -

On the night of March 2, 2023, Her Excellency Dr. O Vandin, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia, announced the complete rejection of the release of false and inaccurate information both domestically and abroad on the case. The H5N1 bird flu virus, which was recently detected in Prey Veng province, is a case of human-to-human transmission.

She added that as of March 2, 2023, the Ministry of Health had found only two cases of H5N1 bird flu in Roleang village, Romlech commune, Sithor Kandal district, Prey Veng province. An 11-year-old girl died and her father recovered and was released from the district hospital.

The two positive cases of the H5N1 bird flu virus were concluded to be "transmission of the H5N1 bird flu virus from birds to humans, not from humans to humans," she said. Accurate or false and fabricated information spread by the media related to this case.

A total of 51 samples (from 20 closely related individuals and 31 individuals with flu-like symptoms) were collected for analysis, and all results were negative for the H5N1 virus. The Ministry of Health's research team is still present in Prey Veng province to investigate further cases of H5N1 bird flu and will continue to collect samples for analysis of suspected and influenza-like individuals. Well.

In addition, the Department of Virology at the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge confirmed the presence of the A / H5N1 virus in the samples sent for analysis and performed a detailed analysis of the full genome sequencing on GISAID (GISAID: Enabling rapid and open access to epidemic and pandemic virus data) on February 26, 2023. The A / H5N1 virus found in a case in Cambodia shows mutations that are expected to be transmitted from birds to humans, but this does not indicate that the virus is mutating or adapting to human transmission. To the people. The A / H5N1 virus in Cambodia does not have a mutation associated with an increase in mammalian transmission.

The Ministry of Health of Cambodia urges all media outlets to correct and take responsibility for the information they publish and ensure that their reporting is based on accurate scientific evidence and accurate quotes. An update for 02 March 2023:
    • To date, two cases of avian influenza virus (A/H5N1) have been confirmed in Cambodia. No further cases have been detected.
    • The second case was treated in hospital and was discharged on 28 Feb 2023 following his third negative result.
    • Thus far, there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission. Based on the investigations, both cases had exposure to sick and dead poultry and their symptoms started on the same day suggesting a common exposure.
    • Genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis from both cases revealed that the virus is clade 2.3.2.1c, similar to viruses circulating in domestic poultry and wild bird populations in Cambodia since 2013.

I would like to clarify recent statements in the press regarding the ##H5N1 virus detected recently in #Cambodia that were taken out of context. The confusion surrounds the implication that the virus has already gone “through” humans, and may be misinterpreted. (A thread - 1/)

For clarification, #H5N1 virus sequenced from the case in Cambodia shows certain changes that are anticipated and have been found in previous avian and/or human strains when they go from a bird to a human. (2/)

The small adaptations we observe have been detected in spillover events into humans in the past, and have not resulted in sustained human-to-human transmission. **Rigorous experimental analysis is necessary to evaluate the effect of these mutations on this specific virus.** (5/)

As recapped by Erik's previous thread, https://twitter.com/E_A_Karlsson/status/1629711660398305280…, this human sequence is clade 2.3.2.1c, distinct from the clade 2.3.4.4 viruses causing the outbreaks in Europe and North America. This human sequence clusters most closely with other viruses sampled in Southeast Asia

Interestingly, H5 sequences sampled from Cambodia show a lot of diversity. Since 2020, H5N6, H5N8, and H5N1 have all been detected. The human case (red circle) descends from H5 strains that are endemic to Cambodia (blue tips), and are distinct from clade 2.3.4.4 (blue circle)

This matches with what Erick and WHO reported: this human case was likely caused by endemic H5 lineages that have circulated in Cambodia for years rather than from the clade 2.3.4.4 viruses that have been in the news for causing mammal infections lately.

Finally, we have a few small updates on the avian builds! We've added a colorby option for domestic/wild status for sequences that are annotated as such in GISAID. Domestic/wild distinction gives us more data to think about transmission, so this is great to see

    From a question on twitter.....

When fighting H5N1 the protocol has been to cull excessive amounts of poultry (if some are found to be infected) and also to blanket the area in anti-virals for humans. We used to call it a "tami blanket". This is normal protocol even for only 1 human case.
