    Suspected bird flu outbreak in Mondulkiri

    Mondulkiri provincial authorities on Thursday announced that there was a suspected outbreak of bird flu, or H5N1, in Keo Sima district after more than 60 chickens became sick last week.

    Sok Kheang, the chief of the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Department in Mondulkiri, told Khmer Times that since last week more than 60 chickens belonging to villagers in Keo Sima district started to show signs of illness.

    He said the department took the chickens to be examined at the Pasture Institute, but there has not been any confirmation of H5N1 so far...

    Affected population On January 30th, 2018, backyard poultry?s owner in Om Arm village, Sre Khtum commune, Keo Seima district reported to Provincial Animal Health and Production Office (PAHPO) that there were 14 out of 60 chickens sick with suspected clinical signs of avian influenza. Two samples from chickens which died suddenly were collected by PAHPO staff and sent to National Animal Health and Production Research Institute (NAHPRI) for laboratory diagnosis and confirmation. On February 1st, 2018, the laboratory result confirmed positive of influenza A/H5N1. All susceptible birds in the infected premises have been culled.
