Seoul, South Korea, Aug. 18 (CNA) Eight Taiwanese wind musicians who are attending an international music festival in Jeju Island, tested positive for the A(H1N1) flu virus Monday, South Korean health authorities said Tuesday.

Six other Taiwanese wind instrument players were put under observation Monday after they developed high fever, the authorities said.

Five Malaysians who were also attending the 2009 International Wind Instrument Festival in Jeju Island, were the first participants to test positive for the A(H1N1) flu strain Sunday, according to the South Korean health authorities.

Nearly 2,000 people from nine countries are attending the international wind instrument festival ? one of the major summer festivals in Jeju ? from Aug. 12-20.

According to the Korean health authorities, 47 new cases of the new swine flu were confirmed Monday, bringing the total number of A(H1N1) flu infections in South Korea to 2,212.
