    H1N1 influenza death toll on the rise across Myanmar

    YANGON, July 19 (Xinhua) -- The death toll due to the seasonal influenza A (H1N1) pdm 09 has risen to 62 across Myanmar as of Thursday, according to the figures from the public health department under the Ministry of Health and Sports on Friday.
    This year's death toll broke the record of 2017 when there were 38 deaths and at least 400 infected people registered nationwide.
    From Jan. 1 to July 18 this year, 279 people were confirmed to have been affected by the H1N1 influenza and most of them were aged between 15 to 65 years old, according to the central epidemiology unit under the ministry.
    During the period, Yangon region registered highest mortality rate of H1N1 influenza with 49 deaths, followed by Ayeyarwaddy region with four deaths while two each in Bago and Sagaing regions, one in Magway region, three in Mon state and one in Kachin state, respectively.

      H1N1 death toll reaches 65
      The Ministry of Health and Sports issued press statement saying the H1N1 virus has killed 65 from January 2019 to July 21, 2019.
      During this six-month period, 824 patients suspected of being infected with H1N1 virus were sent for laboratory test and 349 patients were found infected out of which 65 have died.
      Yangon Region is ranked first with 52 deaths with this seasonal influenza and 4 died of this virus in Ayeyarwady Region, 3 died in Mon State, 2 each in Bago and Sagaing Regions, and one each in Kachin State and Magway Region.






      Out of 42 townships in Yangon Region, no deaths have yet been reported in Kyauktan, Kyauktada, Taikkyi, Kayan, Dagon, Tamwe, Lanmadaw, Bahan, Latha, Kamayut, Insein, Dala and South Okkalapa Townships so far.
      Prevention and education campaigns for this H1N1 virus were reportedly conducted by Ministry of Health and Sports

      The Ministry of Health and Sports issued press statement saying the H1N1 virus has killed 65 from January 2019 to July 21, 2019.

        H1N1 influenza death toll rises to 71 in Myanmar

        YANGON, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Death toll caused by seasonal influenza, A (H1N1) pdm09, rose to 71 across Myanmar on Wednesday, said the figures released by the Public Health Department under the Ministry of Health and Sports on Thursday.
        From January to July 24 this year, the department reported 337 laboratory confirmed H1N1 cases.
        During this period, Yangon region registered the highest mortality rate with 56 people. Among them, five deaths were reported in Ayeyarwady region, three in Bago region, two in Sagaing region and one in Magway region.
        Also, three deaths were registered in Mon state and one in Kachin state.
        Of the total deaths, 57 deaths were people who suffered from seasonal influenza H1N1 with co-morbid conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory diseases and other immune-deficiency conditions, said a report of the Central Epidemiology Unit and the National Health Laboratory under the ministry.

          H1N1 death toll climbs to 73

          Till July 26, 397 people were found to have been infected with H1N1 and the number of the people who died of H1N1 reached 73, according to the figures from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

          Out of 277 patients with influenza-like illness (ILI), 57 patients contracted A (H1N1), 12, A (H3N2) and eight Influenza B. Out of 666 patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI), 292 patients suffered from A (H1N1), 14 from A (H3N2) and 15 from Influenza B.
          An official of the Central Infectious Diseases Control Division under the Public Health Department said: “Till July 26, a total of 942 people took the laboratory tests nationwide, and there were 397 laboratory-confirmed cases. There were 73 reported deaths—57 in Yangon, five in Ayeyawady, four in Bago, three in Mon and two in Sagaing and one each in Kachin and Magway.”

          Normally, the number of deaths caused by seasonal influenza is not high. But the high death toll among the people with chronic diseases, the elderly and child. The death toll among the people aged between 15 and 65 is the highest, accounting for 49 per cent of the total number of deaths while the death toll among the patients with chronic diseases reached 44 or 78.6 per cent. The late hospitalization may increase the chance of death, according to the ministry.

            There are 81 deaths in H1N1 in Myanmar, and the mortality rate is much higher than in previous years

            According to CCTV news, the H1N1 epidemic in Myanmar has been increasing this year. According to the Ministry of Health and Sports of Myanmar, from January 1st to July 29th, 2019, there were 81 cases of H1N1 deaths. Among them, there were 62 death cases in Yangon Province, 5 cases in Irrawaddy, 1 case in Rakhine State, 1 case in Kachin State, 5 cases in Bago Province, 1 case in Magway Province, 3 cases in Mon State, and 2 in Sagaing Province. For example, 1 case of Shan State (south). There are 418 cases of seasonal influenza infection in Myanmar this year, including 366 cases of Influenza A (H1N1) virus, 26 cases of Influenza A (H3N2) virus, 26 cases of Influenza B virus infection, and 81 death cases, all of which are H1N1 infected. . The mortality rate of H1N1 in Myanmar this year is far more than in previous years, and relevant departments are urgently taking measures to control the spread of the epidemic.

              Death toll of influenza H1N1 to 87 in Myanmar

              YANGON, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Six more people have died of current seasonal influenza A (H1N1), bringing the total death toll to 87 as of Saturday, according to the figures released by the Public Health Department late Sunday.
              Of the victims scattered in nine regions and states, Yangon region registered the highest mortality rate with 63, followed by Ayeyawaddy region with eight and Bago region with five.
              This year's death toll broke the record of 2017 when there were 38 deaths and at least 400 people were infected nationwide.
              Minister of Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe called for raising the momentum of addressing the issue, while closely monitoring the development of the influenza attack.
              The symptoms of the seasonal influenza come within one to five days which is called incubation period after exposure to the infected person as the virus is spread through airborne droplets from sneezing and coughing or by hands which are contaminated with secretions.

                H1N1 influenza death toll further rises to 90 across Myanmar

                YANGON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Death toll of influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 rose to 90 in Myanmar as of Wednesday, according to the figures released by the Public Health Department under the Ministry of Health and Sports.
                A total of 422 laboratory confirmed H1N1 influenza infection cases were reported over the seven months from Jan. 1 to Aug. 7 this year.
                During the period, Yangon region registered the highest mortality rate with 63 people, followed by Ayeyarwady region with nine deaths and Bago region with seven.
                Also, Sagaing region and Mon state registered three deaths each while two deaths were reported in Magway region, and Kachin, Rakhine and Shan states registered one death each, respectively, the department's figures said.
                Of them, 72 dead were those who suffered from H1N1 influenza with co-morbid conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease and other immune-deficiency conditions, according to a report of the Central Epidemiology Unit and the National Health Laboratory under the ministry.

                  Till 9 August, the number of H1N1 death toll reached 92 with Yangon Region topping the list with 63 deaths, according to the figures from the Ministry of Health and Sports.
                  Out of 337 patients with Influenza Like Illness, 76 patients were found to have been infected with A (H1N1), 15, A (H3N2) and nine, Influenza B. Out of 851 Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patients, 355 patients were found to have been infected with A (H1N1), 24 patients, A (H3N2) and 22 patients, Influenza B.

                  An official of the Central Infectious Diseases Control Division under the Public Health Department said: ?A total of 1,186 patients conducted the laboratory tests. There were 500 laboratory-confirmed patients. The total number of death toll reached 92?63 in Yangon, 11 in Ayeyawady, seven in Bago, three each in Mon and Sagaing, two in Magway and one each in Rakhine, Kachin and southern Shan State.?

                    H1N1 kills 94 people in Myanmar
                    A total of 94 out of 520 H1N1 patients have died till August 13 in Myanmar and two more people from Yangon Region died, according to Ministry of Health and Sports.
                    Out of 358 influenza-like illness (ILI) patients, 84 of them are H1N1 patients and 15 are influenza A (H3N2) patients. Among them, nine people are suffered from influenza B. Out of 896 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients, 367 of them are H1N1 patients and 24 are influenza A (H3N2) patients. Among them, 22 people are suffered from influenza B.
                    ?The health authorities tested 1,252 patients and found 520 of them are infected with H1N1. The death tolls reached to 94: 65 from Yangon Region, 11 from Ayeyawady Region, 7 from Bago Region, three each from Mon State and Sagaing Region, two from Magway Region, one each from Rakhine, Kachin and southern Shan State,? said an official from Central Epidemiology Unit under the Department of Public Health.






                    The numbers of infected patients and deaths in regions and states are as per following: 247 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 562 suspects and 65 deaths from Yangon Region, 48 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 99 suspects and 11 deaths from Ayeyawady Region, 11 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 22 suspects and 3 deaths from Sagaing Region, 10 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 18 suspects and 3 deaths from Mon State, 29 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 75 suspects and 7 deaths from Bago Region, 55 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 134 suspects from Nay Pyi Taw, 22 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 39 suspects and 2 deaths from Magway Region, 6 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 22 suspects from Mandalay Region, 28 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 69 suspects and 1 death from Rakhine State, 4 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 11 suspects from Shan State (north), 6 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 9 suspects and 1 death from Shan State (south), no confirmed H1N1 patient out of 1 suspect from Shan State (east), 4 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 8 suspects from Taninthayi Region, 31 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 93 suspects and 1 death from Kachin State, three suspects from Chin State and 11 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 79 suspects from Kayin State, announced the ministry.

                    A total of 94 out of 520 H1N1 patients have died till August 13 in Myanmar and two more people from Yangon Region died, according to Ministry of Health and Sports.

                      Influenza H1N1 death toll inches closer to 100 in Myanmar

                      YANGON, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of seasonal influenza A (H1N1) pdm 09 reached 96 as of Friday, an official from Ministry of Health and Sports told Xinhua on Saturday.
                      From January 1 to August 16 this year, a total of 463 laboratory confirmed influenza H1N1 infection cases were reported with deaths inching closer to 100.
                      During the period, Yangon region registered highest mortality rate with 66 deaths, accounting two-thirds of total deaths as it has the highest population density, said Daw Khin Khin Gyi, deputy director of Contagious Disease Prevention and Eradication Division under the ministry's Public Health Department.
                      Also, 12 deaths were reported in Ayeyarwady region while seven deaths in Bago, three deaths in Sagaing and two in Magway regions.
                      Meanwhile, Mon state registered three deaths, followed by Kachin, Rakhine and Shan states with one death each.

                        H1N1 death toll surpasses 100 in Myanmar

                        YANGON, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of influenza A (H1N1) amounted to 102 so far, said figures released by the Public Health Department under the Ministry of Health and Sports late Friday.
                        A total of 489 laboratory confirmed H1N1 infection cases were registered across Myanmar from January 1 to August 23 this year.
                        Of the total deaths, 83 deaths were those who suffered from H1N1 influenza with underlying diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, and other immune-deficiency conditions, said a report of the Central Epidemiology Unit and National Health Laboratory under the ministry.
                        Regionally, Yangon region registered the highest mortality rate with 66 deaths, followed by Ayeyarwady region with 13 deaths and Bago region with nine deaths while Sagaing and Magway regions registered three deaths each.
                        Also, three deaths were reported in Mon state, two in Rakhine state, one state each in Kachin, Shan states and Tanintharyi region during the period.
                        The seasonal influenza virus was detected in July 2017, claiming at least 38 lives across Myanmar. Enditem

                          The number of H1N1 death toll reached 105 nationwide with Yangon topping the list with 68 till 26 August, according to the figures from the Ministry of Health and Sports.
                          Two deaths in Yangon Region and one in Bago Region are added to the latest numbers.
                          From January to August 26, out of 395 patients with Influenza Like Illness (ILI), 95 patients were found to have A (H1N1), 16, A (H3N2) and 14, Influenza B. Out of 1,072 Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patients, 403 patients were found to have A (H1N1), 32 patients, A (H3N2) and 34 patients, Influenza B.

There were 593 laboratory-confirmed patients. Out of 1,094 Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patients, 425 patients were found to have A (H1N1), 32 patients, A (H3N2) and 47 patients, Influenza B.

Out of 1,234 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients, 1,243 of them are H1N1 patients, 39 influenza A (H3N2) patients and 72 influenza B patients.
                              An official of the Public Health Department said: ?Till September 20, 1,741 patients underwent laboratory tests nationwide and 740 were found to be infected with the flu. The death toll reached 115?68 in Yangon Region, 14 in Ayeyawady Region, 11 in Bago Region, five in Sagaing Region, four each in Magway and Mandalay Regions, three in Mon State, two in Rakhine State and one each in Nay Pyi Taw, Kachin State, Shan State (South) and Taninthayi Region.?

                                H1N1 influenza death toll reaches 116 in 10 months in Myanmar

                                YANGON, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The total death toll of influenza A (H1N1) pdm 09 reached 116 in Myanmar's regions and states as of Friday, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health and Sports on Saturday.

                                The release from the Public Health Department under the ministry said a total of 578 people were infected by the H1N1 seasonal influenza from Jan. 1 to Oct. 18 this year.

                                Most of the deaths were those who suffered from the seasonal influenza with underlying diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, and other immune-deficiency conditions.

                                During the period, Yangon region registered highest mortality rate with 68 deaths.

                                According to the statistics from the Central Epidemiology Unit under the department, 58 percent of the seasonal influenza infection cases cover the age group of 15-65 years old.

                                Prevention and control of H1N1 virus to reduce the risk of fatality from the virus is underway by the health authorities and people are urged to follow recommended precautionary measures.
