    H1N1 death toll reaches 26

    As of August 16, 26 people have died from H1N1 seasonal influenza, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports. Between July 21 and August 16, the virus infected 262 people and 58 patients were being treated for the disease, also known as swine flu, at general hospitals throughout the country. Nineteen infected people died not from the virus but from other diseases, the ministry confirmed. Since the disease caught public attention, the death toll had risen slowly but steadily ? 23 on August 14 and 25 on August 15, according to the ministry. Yangon Region was the heaviest hit with 81 cases while Ayeyawady Region had the highest death toll of 10. Kachin and Kayah states were still free from the disease, the ministry added.

      H1N1 death toll in Burma rises to 27

      By noon on 17 August, 27 persons in Burma had died from the recent pandemic of swine flu, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports.
      In a statement, the ministry announced that 725 persons nationwide had been hospitalised for severe respiratory tract infections, 277 of whom had been diagnosed with the H1N1 influenza virus.
      The government said it had adopted special measures to provide effective treatment not only to those affected with H1N1 but also to those patients suffering from respiratory tract infections.
      In Sagaing Division, it has been reported that four family members of a medical doctor in Tantse Township had contracted H1N1, as had two family members of a doctor in the village of Mon Yway Kyay Mone.
      A university student and a medical worker in Monywa have also been diagnosed with the virus

        Death toll from H1N1 reaches 29

        From August 17 to 18, five out of 22 suspected patients were confirmed to have been infected with H1N1 swine flu. From July 21 to August 18, 282 out of 747 hospital patients were infected with H1N1 nationwide and the death toll reached 29. Until August 18, the number of hospital patients suspected of having been infected with H1N1 reached 335 in Yangon. Among them, 82 patients were infected with H1N1 and the death toll reached seven. Currently, 50 patients infected with H1N1 have been in hospital, including four in Waibargi Specialist Hospital in Yangon. The Ministry of Health and Sports is paying special attention to prevention and rapid responses to H1N1 in Yangon, Ayeyarwady and Bago regions where the highest infection rates were reported. According to the Flu Net website of the World Health Organisation, from January to the first week of August there were 12,060 reported influenza cases in China, 1,318 in India, 480 in Nepal, 373 in Sri Lanka, 289 in Maldives, 274 in Bangladesh, 136 in Myanmar, 109 in Thailand, 59 in Malaysia, 48 Bhutan and two in Indonesia.

          3 more die in 3 days in Myanmar due to swine flu

          YANGON, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Three more people have died of seasonal influenza A/H1N1-2009, also known as swine flu, over the past three days, bringing the total death toll to 33 as of Wednesday, official media reported Thursday.
          More than 300 patients were confirmed for being infected with the virus across the country since the outbreak of the disease on July 21.
          However, more than 210 patients have already been discharged from hospital after treatment, the report said, adding that the Ministry of Health and Sports has sent rapid respond teams to the affected areas to control the spread of the virus.
          Meanwhile, prices of chicken and duck continued to fall by half in markets of Myanmar's commercial city of Yangon recently due to the impact of the influenza.

            H1N1 claims 36 lives

            The seasonal influenza H1N1, also known as swine flu, has claimed 36 lives nationwide, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports.
            A total of 27 patients are receiving treatment at public hospitals, added the ministry.
            Between August 23 and September 2, the virus was found in 52 out of 181 suspected patients, three of whom died.
            Chin State, Taninthayi Region, Nay Pyi Taw, south and east Shan State, Rakhine State and Kachin State have all reported H1N1 cases but no deaths. Kayah State remains free of the virus, according to the ministry.
            Cumulative incidence of influenza-like symptoms has become less common in schools, workplaces, hotels and community houses, and healthcare professionals have been vaccinated against the disease, announced the ministry.

              Myanmar swine flu outbreak kills 38: media

              YANGON, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A total of 38 people out of some 400 patients contracting seasonal influenza A/H1N1-2009, also known as swine flu, across Myanmar have died so far since the outbreak of the disease on July 21, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Wednesday.
              The fatalities were mostly from Yangon, Ayeyarwady and Bago regions, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports.
              At present, most of the patients have been discharged as their health conditions improved notably.
              Meanwhile, seasonal influenza affection rate had also declined in public areas including schools, work places and other crowded places.
