H1N1 death toll reaches 26
As of August 16, 26 people have died from H1N1 seasonal influenza, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports. Between July 21 and August 16, the virus infected 262 people and 58 patients were being treated for the disease, also known as swine flu, at general hospitals throughout the country. Nineteen infected people died not from the virus but from other diseases, the ministry confirmed. Since the disease caught public attention, the death toll had risen slowly but steadily ? 23 on August 14 and 25 on August 15, according to the ministry. Yangon Region was the heaviest hit with 81 cases while Ayeyawady Region had the highest death toll of 10. Kachin and Kayah states were still free from the disease, the ministry added.
