Abuse of the elderly is increasing in Japan amid the rapid aging of the country's society.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The number of confirmed cases of abuse of seniors by relatives rose to a record 16,668 in fiscal 2010, up 6.7 percent from the previous year, the welfare ministry said Tuesday.
