FUKUOKA -- A man was arrested here on Feb. 15 on suspicion of repeatedly slashing his wife's 16-year-old daughter's leg with a knife, leaving her seriously injured.
Tokyo, Feb. 16 (Jiji Press)--The number of child abuse cases detected by police in Japan and that of victims involved in the cases both hit record highs in 2011, the National Police Agency said Thursday.
Police uncovered 384 cases of abuse nationwide against people aged younger than 18 last year, the largest number of such cases since record-taking began in 1999, according to National Police Agency data released Thursday.
Police discovered 1,455 cases of child pornography last year, up 8.4 percent from the previous year and the highest number since statistics were first compiled in 2000, according to the National Police Agency.

Reports of school bullying, child abuse reach record highs
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Local legal affairs bureaus in Japan handled a record 3,306 bullying cases at schools last year, up 21.8 percent from the previous year, the Justice Ministry said Friday.
