    Man arrested on suspicion of slashing stepdaughter

    FUKUOKA -- A man was arrested here on Feb. 15 on suspicion of repeatedly slashing his wife's 16-year-old daughter's leg with a knife, leaving her seriously injured.

      Tokyo, Feb. 16 (Jiji Press)--The number of child abuse cases detected by police in Japan and that of victims involved in the cases both hit record highs in 2011, the National Police Agency said Thursday.

      Police uncovered 384 cases of abuse nationwide against people aged younger than 18 last year, the largest number of such cases since record-taking began in 1999, according to National Police Agency data released Thursday.

            Reports of school bullying, child abuse reach record highs

              Man given 10 years for sexually assaulting stepdaughter

              OKAYAMA -- A 50-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Okayama District Court on March 7 for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter.
