Brilliant work Supernova - I had no idea you would be working so hard!

    It is very striking!

Margarine is also fortified in the UK - I wonder what the demograph there is like?
Vegans usually obtain vitamin D from the action of sunlight on the skin or by taking fortified foods such as soya milk, margarine (all of which are fortified by law in the UK)
There was a study done on osteoporosis in "mature" women in New Zealand. The elderly are probably more conscious of the need for Vitamin D in order to stop bone breakage. It is something I just hadn't thought of! What great work Supernova! Thank you!

      Hi, Road Hog,

Please take a look at post #175 (July 3) that discuss how the age distribution graph will look like in the future.

In order to update, I attach a revised age distribution chart since May 31 below.

Please note that compared to the previous since-May-31 graph, "less than 10 years old" increased by 3%.

      Have a nice day.

Update of Novel Flu in Japan
        July 15, 2009

A daily number surpassed 200 again.
        In Osaka, infection is exploding.

The following table and charts are as of 11:00am July 15, 2009.
Distributions by sex and age are not available because no table is published by the Ministry of Health for July 15.
Maybe MOH stopped publishing the talbe for good? This is the middle of July in which they announced that they would stop tracking every single case.
MOH published its table for July 15. (Maybe they heard my complaint.)
        Here is the complete table.

            July 16, 2009

MOH has posted today's table very quickly.

Yamagata, the last remaining prefecture, has found its first confirmed case today. The all 47 prefectures are finally on the list.
The daily number is now close to 300. Osaka is always leading the race.

Update of Novel Flu in Japan
              July 17, 2009

The high school baseball championship is one of the biggest and most popular sports events in Japan. (Similar to the college football in USA) More than 4000 schools participate in local tournaments by prefecture to win 49 seats in the final national championship tournament.
Due to novel flu outbreaks in high schools, people are forced to find solutions to many problems: some schools had to decline to participate in the opening ceremony of local tournaments (but not games) and had to stop sending cheering squads to their team?s games; organizers had to take measures to prevent infections among players and also had to change game schedules to allow teams of schools closed for novel flu to play.
There are concerns over the final national championship tournament to be held from August 8 for 2 weeks in Koshien baseball stadium in Hyogo prefecture, one of the most infected prefecures in Japan adjacent to Osaka where big outbreaks are about to explode. Tens of thousands of people, mainly high school students, will gather from all over Japan, possibly spreading novel flu to every corner of Japan unless appropriate measures are taken by the Japanese high school baseball federation.

The following table and charts are as of 11:00am July 17, 2009.
MOH?s data has not been updated for July 17.

Thank you SN. for all the data.

Exists some named official person in charge and to point if such "appropriate measures" are not taken?

Could realy be leaved to a "baseball federation" the decision if such an high spreading infectious disease event could be aproved?

Every major infection spreading public health event must be vetoed by the public health officials, not leaved to whatsoever sport organizations.

75% partial eclipse was due to appear in the sky of Tokyo at 11:12am today. Unfortunately, the eclipse was totally covered by thick clouds and we couldn?t even feel any darkness in the sky.
It was only in Ioto (or Iwojima), a tiny island 1200km south of Tokyo where a famous battle took place during WWII out of which Clint Eastwood filmed two movies, that total eclipse was really observed in Japan. Visitors of other southern islands from all over the world were dissapointed by Japanese Bai-U front, seasonal rainy front.

It's curious to see that Okinawa has 100 confirmed cases especially when you consider its relatively small population and lack of major seaports. But it makes sense when one considers that it hosts the largest US military presence in Japan.

Cumulative number of patients domestically infected with novel influenza exceeded 5000 Friday, of which prefectures and major municipalities had reported 4986 cases as at 6am of Friday and airport quarantines had detected 36 cases. All-case surveillance was stopped Friday as group-case surveillance took over though outbreaks may develop further in the future.

Accoridng to the Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare, weekly reported cases are steadily increasing from 34 in the week of May 25 to 31 to reach 1502 in July 13 to 19.

By prefecture, Osaka (963), Kanagawa (432) and Aichi (403) prefectures stay at the top and 13 prefectures have more than 100 cases. While Osaka reported Friday the third case in Japan of influenza encephalitis with 7-year-old elementary school boy, no report of severe or fatal case has been reported.

The MOH stated: ?Judging from the status in the world, novel influenza outbreaks may continue even in the middle of summer. However, the size of the outbreak are not at a same level of seasonal influenza at its peak.?
