    Health Bureau receives one severe case report today

    The Health Bureau today (8) received a report of a cluster-like infection of influenza-like illness and a report of a serious case of influenza. According to the monitoring data, the influenza virus activity in Macao has been very active. It is expected that the situation will further intensify in the future and will continue for a period of time. The Health Bureau calls on residents to strengthen precautions.

    The cluster-like infection of influenza-like illness was in Class 1 C of St. Paul's School located on the slopes of Heishawan. A total of 6 students were unwell, 4 males and 2 females, aged 6 years. The above patients had fever, Cough and other upper respiratory symptoms. All patients have been diagnosed and treated without severe illness and hospitalization. The Health Bureau has arranged to collect respiratory tract samples from some patients for examination, and instructed schools to strengthen infection control measures such as cleaning and disinfection and maintaining indoor air circulation.

    In addition, the severe case of influenza received was a 69-year-old male, a Macao resident who had a history of chronic obstructive emphysema. The patient developed fever, cough, shortness of breath and other symptoms yesterday (7). He went to the emergency department of the Earl General Hospital. After a rapid influenza test, his respiratory tract samples were positive for influenza A virus, and his chest radiograph showed double lung pneumonia. Teminford has been prescribed immediately and admitted to the hospital for treatment; this morning (8) morning, due to increased shortness of breath and respiratory failure, a ventilator is required. At present, the patient's vital signs are stable and conscious. The patient was not vaccinated this season.

    According to the fixed-point monitoring data of the hospital, the ratio of the number of emergency-related visits due to influenza-like illness in the two major hospitals in Macao to the total number of visits has increased from the previous week, 10.1% for adults in the first week, an increase of 2.6% in the previous 4 weeks and 5.9% in the previous week. . The first week of pediatrics was 35.3%, an increase from 21.5% of the previous 4 weeks and 30.8% of the previous week. At the same time, the proportion of flu-like patients is rising further since last weekend.

    According to the laboratory pathogen monitoring data of the Public Health Laboratory of the Hospital and Health Bureau, the positive rate of influenza virus in the respiratory tract test in the first week was 28.7%, which was an increase from 15.5% in the previous week, indicating that the current influenza virus in Macao Active; the detected influenza viruses were mainly influenza A (H1) virus (57.1%) and influenza A (H3) virus (40.0%).

    In terms of cluster influenza-like illness, 51 cases have been recorded since September 2019, which is slightly lower than the 53 cases in the same period last year. Since December 2019, a total of 17 incidents have been recorded, 9 of which are nurseries and early childhood education, 4 of which are primary education, 3 of which are secondary education, 1 and of residential homes; 8 of them were caused by influenza virus, 3 of which were Caused by influenza B virus and 5 cases of influenza A virus.

    In terms of severe influenza, 26 cases of influenza-associated pneumonia have occurred in Macao since September 2019, of which 20 people have not been vaccinated against influenza; 9 people are still hospitalized, 7 men and 2 women, aged 28 to 98 years old, of which 1 One needs to use a ventilator to assist breathing, and the remaining eight are in stable condition.

    The peak of influenza transmission in Macao generally occurs from January to March every year, and another small peak occurs from June to August. After flu vaccination, it usually takes at least 2 to 3 weeks to produce sufficient antibodies to achieve protective effects. . The Health Bureau urges young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and chronic patients, who are at high risk of developing complications of influenza, to get the seasonal flu vaccine as early as possible before the peak of the flu.
