Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - An Indonesian post-graduate student identified as Tengku Abdullah Syahputra, is suspected to have died of Influenza A (H1N1) or swine flu on Tuesday (July 21) at AL Islam Hospital here.

An autopsy was carried out on the Indonesian student hailing from Medan (North Sumatra) in the Kuala Lumpur hospital but nobody, including his relatives or friends, was allowed to see his body.

The student of INCEIF (The Global University in Islamic Finance) was believed to have been infected with the H1N1 virus when traveling in a plane carrying a swine-flu patient on his way back to Kuala Lumpur from Medan, a source at the Indonesian embassy in the Malaysian capital said here on Wednesday.

However, the source said, the Kuala Lumpur hospital could not give positive confirmation that Syahputra, who was studying in Malaysia on a scholarship from Bank Negara Malaysia, had swine flu.

Syahputra`s wife, children and uncle arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday evening.
The Indonesian embassy, the student`s relatives, colleagues and the management of the institute where he was studying, had made preparations for the return of Syahputra`s body to Medan but it was not certain when the transfer could take place.

His relatives had earlier called on Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Da`i Bachtiar to help make the body`s speedy return to Medan possible.

Widyarka Ryananta, information, social and cultural affairs attache at the Indonesian embassy, confirmed that the Indonesian student had died and an autopsy was being conducted on his body.

"The hospital has not yet confirmed that he died of H1N1," Ryananta said.

The number of H1N1 patients in Indonesia has continued to increase. The health ministry in a press release last week said that it had recorded 15 new cases so that the total number of patients suspected to have contracted the H1N1 virus had reached 157.

The health ministry announced the first two H1N1 infection cases on June 24, 2009.(*)
