    • Epidemiological comments
      • The notifiable avian influenza (NAI) infection was detected on a layer farm in the process of active surveillance and identified as H5N2 strain on 29 September 2010.
      • Viral pathogenicity test completed on 14 October 2010, showed low pathogenicity.
      • Containment measures such as movement restriction, clinical inspection, epidemiological investigation and intensified surveillance had been initiated immediately when the virus was detected.
      • On-site clinical health investigation showed that layers within the farm were in healthy condition with normal egg production, and abnormal mortality was not observed.
      • The intensified surveillance in accordance with OIE Code was carried out during three-month period when the low pathogenic notifiable avian influenza (LPNAI) was confirmed.
      • Three courses of clinical and laboratory avian influenza (AI) surveillance had been imposed on poultry farms within the 3-km-radius of the infected farm since October 2010, and the results were all negative for AI virus.
      • The follow-up sampling of the infected farm was done on 11 October 2010. Due to the negative results of follow-up RT-PCR test and virus isolation, and healthy condition of kept hens obtained from the infected farm, as well as negative AI virological testing results of surrounding poultry farms, the movement restriction of the infected farm was lifted on 24 November 2010.
      • There has been no new case of NAI since the outbreak of LPNAI detected on 29 September 2010.
      • Intensified and active surveillance performed on poultry farms surrounding the infected farm and in the whole territory has both shown no other outbreak of NAI.
      • According to the aforementioned information, Taipei China declares that the H5N2 avian influenza outbreak is resolved.
