    Pneumonia cases rise in Cotabato

    COTABATO CITY ? Pneumonia has claimed three deaths since January, and continued to be on top of the list of respiratory illnesses that has afflicted Cotabate?os for the fist quarter of this year.

    Cotabato City Health Office (CHO) reported over the weekend that a total of 582 pneumonia cases with three deaths were recorded since January this year.

    ?Those who died are elders aged 50-years-old and above,? Imraida I. Malang, CHO surveillance coordinator, said.

    Malang said that of the total of those afflicted, 333 were female and 249 male.

    While other diseases affecting Cotabate?os are diarrhea, hypertension, typhoid fever, and measles.

    Malang said that diarrhea cases alone reached 505 cases from January to March this year.

    ?Hypertension registered 21 deaths, particularly adults aged 55-years-old and above,? she said.

    Typhoid fever, meanwhile, chalked a total of 111 cases while measles totaled 27 cases.

    Malang also noted that dengue cases increased by at least 20 percent during the first quarter this year with 73 cases compared to 49 cases recorded during the last quarter of last year.
