            ?Illness may be from Pahang?

Mohamad said he was not sure of the cause but suspected that the Bateq people could have brought it in from Pahang as most of the deceased had come from there.

It is learnt that it takes the Bateq people, a semi-nomadic Orang Asli tribe, about three days to walk from the Pahang border to the village in Kuala Koh.

He also did not rule out the possibility that the sick had contracted the mysterious disease from contaminated water flowing from nearby oil palm plantations.
            ...
Meanwhile, state Health director Dr Zaini Hussin said the department is working with neighbouring states Pahang and Terengganu to determine the source of the illness.

A Measles Outbreak Is The Cause of 15 Orang Asli Deaths In Kelantan

              By Alyssa J. Oon ? 17 Jun 2019, 02:45 PM

Previously, it was deemed as "mysterious illness".
              ...
The disease claimed its 15th victim, a three-year-old toddler belonging to the Bateq tribe, yesterday.
The Health Ministry believes that the viral infection was able to spread quickly due to the villagers' limited protection against it

While 61.5% of the villagers received their first measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) shots, only 30% of them had their follow-up shots.
              ...
The Ministry faced difficulties administering the vaccine due to the tribe's nomadic lifestyle.

"Lack of nutrients also contributes to the risk of infection and complications," said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad in the statement.

KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian government is expected to remove next week a "red zone" status in a remote district in Kelantan peopled by a tribe of the aboriginal Orang Asli, following the deaths of 15 people there in a case that has caught national attention.

While often forgotten in national conversations about race and poverty, the deaths this year from what was claimed to be a "mysterious" illness have brought several federal Cabinets rushing to the area in recent weeks, including Deputy Prime Minister Wan Azizah Ismail.

The remote outpost in Gua Musang district, about six hours by car from capital Kuala Lumpur, is populated by the Bateq tribe and had been largely closed to the public for nearly a month.

Officials have since determined that a measles outbreak in Kampung Kuala Koh was the main cause of the deaths, with members of the tribe afflicted with respiratory-related illnesses.

A total of 116 cases infecting the community has been recorded since June 2, with 37 confirmed cases of measles.

Kelantan health director Dr Zaini Hussin said health officers have started administering vaccines to the nomadic community...
