Express News/Changhua Zhutang layer chicken farm infected with H5N2 avian influenza 16,000 layers were culled
    2021/12/11 16:57:00

The Animal and Plant Disease Prevention and Quarantine Bureau of the Council of Agriculture stated today (11) that the Animal Health Laboratory notified that a new H5N2 subtype (branch b) highly pathogenic avian influenza virus was confirmed in the laying hen farm in Zhutang Township, Changhua County, according to standard operating procedures, Changhua The county animal epidemic prevention station culled 16,778 laying hens on the farm, and supervised the industry to complete the cleaning and disinfection of the site. According to statistics, so far this year, a total of 18 cases of bird flu have been confirmed and culled across the country, including 9 land poultry farms, 8 geese farms and 1 duck farm.

The Bureau of Inspection and Quarantine pointed out that South Korea and Japan, the upstream countries of my country’s migratory bird routes, have reoccurred high pathogenic poultry influenza outbreaks in November this year. In South Korea, since November 8th, 10 poultry farms have confirmed H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza. Virus (branch b), culled more than 1.14 million poultry. Since November 10 in Japan, 8 poultry farms have confirmed the H5N1 or H5N8 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (both branch b), and the number of poultry culled exceeds 460,000. It is obvious that the introduction of foreign avian influenza virus through migratory bird migration The risk of poultry farms in my country has increased.

The Bureau of Inspection and Quarantine urges poultry farmers. There are currently 4 cases of new H5N2 subtype avian influenza virus in poultry farms in China, and there are also cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza poultry farms in Japan and South Korea. The risk of spreading pathogens through wild migratory birds is increased, poultry farms Various biosafety tasks should be implemented independently, and various biosafety tasks in poultry farms should be implemented in accordance with the "H5, H7 subtype poultry influenza prevention and control measures" announced by the local county and city government to prevent the invasion or occurrence of avian influenza epidemics.

The Bureau of Inspection and Quarantine reminded that if a poultry farm is found to be inconsistent with the previous prevention and control measures, it will be fined up to NT$150,000 and improved within a time limit according to the regulations. The poultry culled will not be compensated in accordance with regulations.

A novel H5N2 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI ) virus belonging to clade 2.3.4.4b was isolated from a duck carcass near the wetlands along the Zhuoshui River on August 9, 2021. Later, the same virus was found in poultry farming in both Yunlin County (6 farms) and Changhua County (1 farm near the Yunlin outbreak) under the annual active surveillance program for avian influenza. All farms have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after culling farmed birds. Adjacent farms within 3 km of the infected farms will be under strengthened surveillance for a period of 3 months. Suspected signs were observed in poultry carcasses during post-mortem inspection in the abattoir in Pingtung County. Samples were sent to the Animal Health Research Institute (AHRI) for diagnosis. Novel H5N2 subtype HPAI was confirmed by the AHRI. The carcasses were destroyed and thorough cleaning and disinfection have been conducted in the abattoir. After tracing back to the farm of origin, any positive results will be included in follow-up reports. Samples from Nantou County were sent to the National Laboratory, Animal Health Research Institute (AHRI) for diagnosis. Highly pathogenic avian influenza novel H5N2 subtype was confirmed by AHRI. The sampling spots in Nantou County were disinfected. Surrounding poultry farms within 3 km radius of the sampling spot are under intensified surveillance for three months.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza confirmed in Dacheng and Fangyuan chicken farms in Zhang County
Reporter Zhang Wenxi / Changhua Report
Tuesday, January 4, 2022 11:02·2 minutes (reading time)

Winter is the season for avian influenza. Due to the drop in temperature and the large temperature difference, it is easy to cause high pressure for poultry, and it is easy to reduce the immunity of poultry and get sick. On December 31, last year, we received the chicken farm in Dacheng and the village of Fangyuan respectively. The chicken farm took the initiative to notify the chickens on the farm that there were only abnormal deaths. The epidemic prevention station immediately sent personnel to carry out movement control and collected the diseased chickens for inspection by the animal health station. On the 3rd, the home health office confirmed that they were infected with the new H5N2 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza virus. Anti-epidemic personnel completed the culling and disinfection of the entire site on the 4th, culling a total of 25,680 in-egg chickens and 46,759 native chickens, for a total of 72,439 culled.

The Animal Prevention and Control Institute stated that the countries upstream of my country’s migratory bird routes (South Korea and Japan) have recently continued to have high pathogenic poultry influenza H5N1 or H5N8 subtypes of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (branch b). The remnants of wild birds in the Kaohsiung wetland in Kaohsiung City on December 15 and the death of the Black-faced Spoonbill in the Four Grass Wetland in Tainan City on December 15 detected the H5N1 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza (similar to the outbreak in Korea and Japan in the winter of 110 H5N1 subtype virus strain), it is obvious that the risk of introducing foreign avian influenza viruses into my country’s poultry farms increases through the migration of migratory birds.

Dong Mengzhi, director of the Animal Epidemic Prevention Department, said that poultry farmers should implement various soft and hardware biological safety measures on the premises, strengthen the disinfection of the premises, and strictly prohibit all types of vehicles and personnel outside the premises from entering the premises. If necessary, they must also enter the premises. People are required to change their clothes and shoes, and vehicles must be cleaned and disinfected before entering; and bird-proof measures should be taken to avoid contact between poultry and waiting (wild) birds to introduce pathogens into the poultry farm. In addition, if the poultry on the farm is found to have died abnormally or have abnormally decreased food intake, water consumption, egg production rate, etc., they should immediately report to the local animal epidemic prevention agency to help clarify the cause, so as to detect suspected cases as soon as possible, and deal with them immediately to avoid the spread of the epidemic. Work together to maintain overall industrial safety...

The Bureau of Animal and Plant Epidemic Prevention and Quarantine stated on the 7th that the Animal Health Laboratory notified that the new H5N2 subtype (branch b) highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (active notification) was diagnosed in the Danzhong Chicken Farm in Fangyuan Township, Changhua County. According to standard operating procedures, Changhua County The Animal Epidemic Prevention Institute carried out the culling and destruction of 44,922 chickens in eggs (13-day-old, 15-day-old and 53-day-old), and supervised the operators to complete the cleaning and disinfection of the site.

The Bureau of Prevention and Inspection pointed out that so far in 2022, there has been 1 confirmed and culled case of avian influenza in poultry farms (1 farm of land birds).

According to the Bureau of Prevention and Inspection, a high-pathogen poultry influenza epidemic has occurred again in the upstream countries of my country's migratory bird route (South Korea and Japan) since November 2021. Among them, 19 poultry farms in South Korea (November 8 to 7, 2021) have been diagnosed with H5N1 Subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (branch b), the number of culled poultry exceeds 1.77 million, and 13 poultry farms in Japan (November 10-7, 2021) have been diagnosed with H5N1 or H5N8 The subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (both branch b) has killed more than 820,000 poultry.

The Bureau of Prevention, Inspection and Quarantine appeals to poultry operators that H5N1 subtype avian influenza virus has been detected in migratory birds entering the country (anatidae and dead black-faced spoonbills), and there are also cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza poultry farms in Japan and South Korea. The risk of pathogens transmitted by migratory birds is increasing. Poultry farms should independently implement various biosafety work, and implement various biosafety work in poultry farms in accordance with the "H5 and H7 subtype poultry influenza prevention and control measures" announced by the local county and city government. In order to prevent the invasion or occurrence of avian influenza epidemics....
