A meat goose farm in Erlun Township, Yunlin County was diagnosed with H5N2. The Animal and Plant Quarantine Bureau of the Council of Agriculture stated today (22) that this is the 15th case of avian flu in a poultry farm this year. 1707 meat geese have been culled and supervised by the industry. Elimination, and appealed to the industry to be more vigilant to prevent the invasion of avian flu. If there is a violation, a fine of up to 150,000 yuan can be imposed.

The Bureau of Inspection and Quarantine stated that, notified by the Animal Health Laboratory, the meat goose farm in Erlun Township, Yunlin County, through strengthened early warning monitoring, discovered that a new type of H5N2 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza virus was confirmed. According to standard operating procedures, the Yunlin Animal and Plant Epidemic Prevention Institute Carry out the culling and destruction of 1,707 goose geese aged 71 days, and supervise the industry to complete the cleaning and disinfection of the site. So far in 110 years, there have been 6 land poultry farms, 8 geese farms and 1 duck farm. A total of 15 cases of avian influenza have been confirmed and culled from poultry farms.

The Bureau of Inspection and Quarantine pointed out that in August this year, a new type of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus of the H5N2 subtype was detected in dead ducks along the Mailiao road in Yunlin. The H5 gene is different from the H5N2 avian influenza virus strain 2.3 circulating in Taiwan poultry farms. The 4.4c branch is a new virus strain, which is the closest to the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus of the H5N8 subtype 2.3.4.4b branch (abbreviated as branch b) isolated from wild birds and poultry farms in South Korea in the winter of 109 to 110. This time The virus on dead ducks in Yunlin Erlun belongs to the same subtype b as the H5 subtype.

According to the Bureau of Inspection and Quarantine, countries upstream of my country’s migratory bird path, such as South Korea and Japan, once again experienced high pathogenic poultry influenza epidemics this month. South Korea has recently confirmed the H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (branch b) in six poultry farms. Approximately 900,000 poultry were culled; 4 poultry farms in Japan have recently confirmed H5N1 or H5N8 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (all branch b), and the number of culled poultry is about 348,000. It is obvious that the migration of migratory birds has caused overseas avian influenza viruses. The risk of being introduced into my country's poultry farms is increasing.

The Bureau of Inspection and Quarantine urged that there are currently cases of new H5N2 subtype avian influenza virus in goose farms in China, and there have been cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza poultry farms in Japan and South Korea. The risk of spreading pathogens through wild migratory birds is increased. Work safely, and indeed implement various biosafety tasks in poultry farms to prevent the invasion or occurrence of avian influenza epidemics.

The Bureau of Inspection and Quarantine also reminded that if a poultry farm is found to have violated the regulations, it can be fined up to NT$150,000 and improved within a time limit according to the regulations. Poultry culled will not be compensated according to regulations.
