DA orders stricter measures vs. bird flu in Pampanga town
By Zorayda Tecson July 5, 2022, 6:23 pm
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office-Central Luzon (RFO3) has ordered stricter control and containment measures against bird flu after a poultry farm in Santo Tomas, this province, showed the presence of the avian influenza virus.
In a letter, DA RFO3 Executive Director Crispulo G. Bautista asked Santo Tomas Mayor John Sambo to implement prompt quarantine prevention and control measures after laboratory tests showed the samples to be positive for Influenza Type A subtype H5N1.
...
The DA RFO3 collected samples last June 24 and 27 following reports of suspected cases in Barangay San Bartolome in Sto. Tomas.
The samples were then tested on June 29 at the Animal Disease Diagnosis and Reference Laboratory, Bureau of Animal Industry in Quezon City.
...
Municipal Agriculturist Gregorio Manansala said some 100,000 chickens have already been culled and another 250,000 more are scheduled to suffer the same. (PNA)

In Pampanga, bird flu hits farms anew
100K egg-producing chickens culled, 250K more set for slaughter to stop virus spread
By: Tonette Orejas - @ttorejasINQ
Philippine Daily Inquirer / 04:45 AM July 06, 2022
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Workers in five farms in Sto. Tomas town, Pampanga province, on Monday rushed the culling of more than 100,000 egg-producing chickens after laboratory tests by the Department of Agriculture (DA) confirmed the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), or bird flu, on several samples in the area.
In a telephone interview, Mayor John Sambo said he ordered the culling following the advice of Crispulo Bautista, the DA director in Central Luzon, to carry out quarantine prevention and control measures against a possible outbreak of bird flu in the province.
Bautista, in a letter to Sambo on June 30, said the samples taken in Barangay San Bartolome from June 24 to June 27 were positive for influenza Type A subtype H5N1...

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—Bird flu, or highly pathogenic avian influenza Type A, was detected in Ilocos Norte among free-range chickens which were distributed to beneficiaries of a government program in the province.
In a public advisory on Saturday, Oct. 29, the provincial government said that the chickens tested positive for the virus after they were distributed by the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 1 (DA-RFO1) on Oct. 20 to beneficiaries of the Balik Probinsya 2 Program.
“Several days later [after the distribution], the chickens’ RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test results yielded positive for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Type A (H5N1), commonly known as Bird Flu,” the provincial government said...

DOH: 8 regions remain affected by avian influenza
ABS-CBN News
Posted at Jan 13 2023 05:39 PM
MANILA — Eight regions in the country still have ongoing outbreaks of avian influenza, the Department of Health said Friday.
Avian flu is a disease that has no cure or treatment and causes high mortality in wild and domestic birds such as ducks, chickens and turkeys, among others.
The DOH, however, has yet to release the list of affected regions.
In a virtual town hall forum, Dr. Alethea De Guzman, director of DOH's epidemiology bureau, said Ilocos Sur and North Cotabato had reported ongoing cases of avian influenza in native chickens and ducks, with 7 and 1 farms affected, respectively.
Meanwhile, 9 municipalities in total from Camarines Sur, Davao del Sur and Bataan have recovered from avian influenza, she added...

Bulacan town bird flu outbreak insignificant – BAI
Danessa Rivera - The Philippine Star
February 15, 2023 | 12:00 am
MANILA, Philippines — An outbreak of avian influenza or bird flu recorded in Sta. Maria, Bulacan recently is “insignificant” and will not affect the supply of eggs in the country, an official of the Bureau of Animal Industry said.
BAI assistant director Arlene Vytiaco said the outbreak has been contained, with 17,425 heads of layers culled.
“The outbreak has no significant effect on table egg supply,” Vytiaco said.
She said the BAI is investigating the cause of the bird flu outbreak and collecting samples from the source farm in Pangasinan.
The BAI said the outbreak may also be caused by migratory birds, which are common in Bulacan and other areas in Central Luzon...
