    KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Bird flu, also known as avian influenza (H5N1), has been detected in Tarakeshwar Municipality in Kathmandu, for a second time, officials said on Friday.

    The Department of Livestock Services under the Ministry of Agriculture said that the virus has been confirmed on a sample from a commercial poultry farm at Tarakeshwor Municipality in Kathmandu. The test was conducted at the Animal Disease Investigation and Control Division, according to Department's director general Dr. Damayenti Shrestha. This is the second time that Tarakeshwor reported the bird flu in less than a month. Earlier the virus was detected in the last week of January...

      Bird flu in Bheri Municipality

      Bird flu has been found in the Layers' breed of chickens reared by farmers of Bheri Municipality, in Jajarkot district.

      Senior Livestock Development Officer at the Livestock Service Department, Chandra Dhakal said bird flu infection was confirmed through PCR tests of samples collected from chickens. The PCR test was done at the Central Animal Disease Investigation Laboratory.

      With this, bird flu has been found in the country five times in the last one month. The disease was spotted twice at wards 1 and 7 of Tarakeshwor Municipality, Kathmandu, and once in Birendranagar Municipality of Surkhet before this...

        Bird flu in Kathmandu valley yet again: 1,500 fowls destroyed in Nakhkhu

        Once again, the bird flu disease has been found in some chickens, ducks and quails owned by farmers in the Kathmandu valley.

        Officials say they recently destroyed 1,500 fowls in the Nakhkhu area of Lalitpur in their bid to control its spread further. They also destroyed around 1,000 chicken eggs and 335 kgs of feed.

        A real-time PCR test conducted at the Central Veterinary Laboratory had confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus in the samples collected from the area, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development...

          Bird flu detected again at three places in Kathmandu

          KATHMANDU: Bird flu has been detected again at three places in Kathmandu. According to the Department of Livestock Services, the bird flu was confirmed at wards no 4 and 9 of Kirtipur Municipality and ward no 2 of Chandragiri municipality.

          Information Officer at the Department, Dr Chandra Dhakal, said that the bird flu was confirmed on May 24 in course of carrying out a test at Central Veterinary Lab, Tripureshwor of samples of turkey reared by farmers of these places.

          He shared that the Department on Wednesday destroyed fowls as well as poultry-related goods at these areas by mobilizing bodies concerned related to livestock services of the federation, province, and local levels.

          A total of 535 turkeys, 492 chickens, 20 ducks, 178 eggs, and 900 kilograms of poultry feed were destroyed in these areas...
