    No need to fear about birdflue, says govt

    The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has said that those districts affected by the ourbreak of deadly bird flu disease are under control.

    The ministry had declared Kaski, Tanahu, Rupendehi, Chitwan and Banke districts as being affected by the disease, which was international problem.

    According to the ministry, some 12,027 fowl, 2,233 eggs, 1,616 kg of birdfeed and 145 kg of meat in different districts have already been destroyed.

    About 429 fowl had been eradicated in Buddhachowk, Khaupadi, Lampatan, Pame, Birauta and Belchautara of Kaski district.

    Similarly, 845 birds had been culled in Tanahu district, 145 in Gagangauda, 78 in Damauli and 622 in Bhimadama. The ministry said that the culling started on Feb. 7 and was completed on Feb. 19.

    Likewise, 358 birds and 60 eggs have been destroyed in Dudraksa, Rupendehi and 178 birds have been culled in Chainpur, Chitwan.

    A rapid response team sent to Phattepur, Phooltekara and Kohalpur in Banke district destroyed 343 birds and 251 eggs.

    The government has been reimbursing Rs. 100 per chicken, Rs. 50 per 1 kg of meat and Rs. 0.50 per egg.

    The government had paid a total of Rs. 1.21 million in compensation out of which Rs. 993,000 was paid in Kaski.
