  • Nepal - 4?000 chicks illegally transported in Jagati culled

    Last Updated At: 2013-11-28 10:15 PM\

BHAKTAPUR: Though Bhaktapur has been declared a bird flu crisis-hit zone following an outbreak a couple of months ago, transportation of fowls and chicks via the district is yet to be stopped.

Everyday, fowls and chicks in large numbers, demanded by poultry entrepreneurs and distributors in Banepa from other districts, enter the crisis-hit district.

A day after 5,000 chicks of Layer hens were culled, 4,000 more were culled today at Jagati, Bhaktapur. They were brought from Chitwan and were being transported to Banepa via Bhaktapur. Karan Chaudhary, the driver of the vehicle carrying the chicks, was taken by surprise when police at Jagati stopped seized his vehicle and he chicks this morning.

Chaudhary said he was new to that route and he had no idea that Bhaktapur had been declared bird flu-crisis hit district. He said Shree Nagar Agro Farm at Rupandehi's Farsatikar and Ram Kumar Shrestha of Banepa had not informed him anything to this effect.

He added that no one at the quarantine point at Thankot warned him of anything... http://thehimalayantimes.com/fullNew...&NewsID=398019
