    Bird Flu confirmed in Jhapa

    JHAPA, APR 06 - Bird flu was confirmed at poultry farms in Mechinagar-10 on Friday, the District Livestock Office (DLO), Jhapa, said.

    Samples from the farms owned by Surendra Gadtaula and Kumari Gurung were sent to the Central Veterinary Lab (CVL), Tripureshwor, a week ago when their chickens started dying, DLO chief Dr Jagadish Pandey said.     Bird flu found at two more places in Jhapa

    BHADRAPUR: Bird flu has been found in fowls at two more places in Jhapa district. With this, bird flu has been detected in poultry at altogether six places in the district.

    According to the District Livestock Service Centre, Jhapa a team of vets found that local breeds of chickens at the house of Mohammad Raja at Bhadrapur Municipality-10 and at the house of Ganga Tamang at Prithvinagar VDC-5 were infected with H5N1 virus that causes bird flu.

    The District Livestock Service Office culled 81 local breed chickens at Bhadrapur Municipality and 90 local breed and 62 broiler breed chickens at Prithvinagar-5. Two quintals of poultry feed was also destroyed at these places after confirmation on Tuesday of bird flu at these places by the Livestock Disease Investigation Laboratory, Kathmandu.
