A highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) was confirmed at the Jongdori Farm in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do.

This is the first highly pathogenic case in the Jeonbuk region this year.

Jeollabuk-do announced on the 7th that "High pathogenic AI H5N1 type was confirmed at the Jongdori farm in Jeongwoo-myeon, Jeongeup," and "preventive killing was completed when antigens were detected."

The farm raised about 16,000 ducks. It was confirmed that there were no other duck farms within a 1km radius.

The quarantine authorities sent an elementary response team to the site to carry out quarantine measures such as farm access control and epidemiological investigations.

Quarantine authorities urged, "The disinfection equipment may freeze in cold weather, so please check it every day to see if it is operating normally."

Earlier, on December 28, last year, a highly pathogenic AI (H5N1 type) was confirmed at a duck farm in Buan.

[Sejong = Reporter Lee Myung-cheol] Highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) Central Accident Response Headquarters announced on the 2nd that a highly pathogenic AI (H5N1 type) was confirmed at Jincheon Pork Duck Farm in North Chungcheong Province.

In poultry farms, a total of 29 highly pathogenic AIs occurred, including this farm. Jeollanam-do has the most with 10, followed by 6 in Chungbuk, 5 in South Chungcheong, and 4 in Jeollabuk-do. By livestock species, 16 ducks followed by 10 laying hens.

The farm raises about 90,000 duck ducks. The heavy water version was discovered in measures to strengthen poultry inspection for early detection of highly pathogenic AI-infected individuals and prompt emergency measures in case of detection.

As soon as a suspected animal is identified, the heavy water headquarters dispatches an initial response team to the site to take preemptive quarantine measures such as access control to the farm, slaughter, and epidemiological investigation.

Highly pathogenic AI was detected in wild bird feces on December 22, last year, and has been quiet for a while. Since the 13th of last month, it has occurred in various places such as Gokgyo Stream in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, Cheorwon Plain in Cheorwon, Gangwon, Nakdong River in Saha, and Anseong Stream in Anseong, Gyeonggi.

He emphasized that poultry farms must maintain a thorough quarantine posture so as not to neglect quarantine prevention as highly pathogenic AI is continuously occurring in various livestock breeds such as Gyeonggi, Chungnam, Chungbuk, Jeonnam, and Jeollabuk-do.

“During the Lunar New Year holiday, the movement of vehicles and people increases, so please actively participate in the intensive disinfection of farm and livestock related facilities and livestock vehicles on the 3rd day designated as the National Japanese Disinfection Day.” We urge you to strictly observe quarantine rules and strictly practice quarantine measures, such as the 4th stage disinfection of farms, including sterilization, and closing the side entrances and barns of farms that do not have disinfection and quarantine facilities.”

An official also added, "Please closely monitor suspicious symptoms such as increased mortality, egg laying rate, feed intake, and decreased activity in domesticated poultry, and immediately report any abnormalities to the quarantine authorities."
