      Edited 2021.12.18 (00:30)

The highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) H5N1 type was finally confirmed at the Sejong laying hen farm.

The High Pathogenic Avian Influenza Central Accident Response Headquarters explained, "As a result of testing suspected individuals at the Sejong Laying Farm, which raises about 344,000 birds, it was confirmed today (17th) as highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 type."

This farm is the 5th laying hen farm with highly pathogenic avian influenza confirmed this winter.

"If there is a cold wave or heavy snowfall, there is a high probability that the farm will not be disinfected well," the heavy water version said. He also emphasized, "Check disinfection facilities such as high-pressure sprayers and manage them well so that they do not freeze."

He explained, "We must restrict the entry of people and vehicles into the farm, spray quicklime again on the driveway after the snow stops, and disinfect the inside and outside of the farm and all equipment," he explained.

              S. Korea reports another suspected bird flu case
              Mon, Dec 27 2021 08:16:34 PM

Seoul, Dec 27 (IANS): South Korea on Monday reported another suspected case of highly pathogenic avian influenza at a duck farm in a southwestern county, the Agriculture Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the latest case was reported at the farm raising about 10,000 ducks in Busan, 280 km south of Seoul, Yonhap news agency reported.

There is no poultry farm within one kilometer of the farm in question.

Health authorities have cordoned off the site and taken other precautionary measures to prevent the potential spread of the disease outside the farm, the authorities said.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza is very contagious among birds and can cause severe illness and even death, especially in domestic poultry.

The country has been reporting a slew of bird flu cases since November this year...

Buan Duck Farm Highly pathogenic AI confirmed ⋯ First case in Jeonbuk this winter
                  reporter name Moon Min-ju Enter 2021.12.28 19:31

A duck farm in Buan-gun was confirmed with highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI). It is the first time this winter that a highly pathogenic AI has been confirmed in Jeonbuk.

Jeollabuk-do announced on the 28th that a highly pathogenic AI (H5N1 type) was confirmed at a bell duck farm in Buan-gun. The farm raises 10,000 ducks. The culling of the farm species has been completed.

624,000 chickens and ducks are being raised at 15 poultry farms, including 14 chicken farms and 1 duck farm, within a 10-km radius of the farm, which is the standard for quarantine measures. The quarantine authorities are managing the farms within a radius of 500m as a management area, within 500m to 3km as a protected area, and within 3 to 10km as a surveillance area. Fortunately, it was found that there were no other farms within 500m of the subject of preventive slaughter. There is one duck farm within 500m to 3km. Eggs from this farm will be discarded.

According to the province, on the 27th, the farmer reported to the quarantine authorities when the spawn rate decreased (about 53%) and mortality occurred. As a result of testing at the Animal Sanitation Laboratory, H5 type AI was confirmed, and as a result of a close examination by the Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Quarantine Headquarters on the same day, it was confirmed as H5N1 type highly pathogenic AI.

Accordingly, the provincial government is controlling access to the farm by urgently deploying an early east quarantine team. In addition to restrictions on the movement of poultry farms within a 10km radius of the farm where the outbreak occurred, it was ordered to temporarily suspend movement of duck farms and related facilities and vehicles in the province until noon on the 29th.

In addition, the province has additionally installed 5 control posts and 3 base disinfection facilities in the area to prevent the spread of AI. In the future, 15 poultry farms within a 10-km radius and 4 farms belonging to the same family will be inspected closely.

Park Tae-wook, head of the Animal Quarantine Division, said, "Please closely monitor suspicious symptoms such as an increase in poultry mortality and a decrease in egg laying rate, feed intake, and activity, and report any abnormalities to the quarantine authorities immediately."

Meanwhile, since the 8th of last month, there are 17 poultry farms where highly pathogenic AI has occurred, including 2 in Sejong, 3 in South Chungcheong, 4 in North Chungcheong, and 8 in Jeonnam.
