South Korea's agricultural ministry said Monday it is investigating a new suspected case of highly pathogenic bird flu, with the country's total caseload standing at 106.

The suspected case came from a duck farm in Jangheung, South Jeolla Province, the previous day, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs. It was the first suspected case in 10 days.

South Korea's agricultural ministry said Wednesday it is investigating a new suspected case of highly pathogenic bird flu, with the total confirmed caseload currently standing at 107.

The latest suspected case of malign H5N8 strain of bird flu came from a duck farm in Naju, 355 kilometers south of Seoul, the previous day, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs. The farm was raising 19,000 ducks.

[The Fact | Cheonan = Reporter Kyung-dong Kim] Another highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) suspected axis was confirmed at a laying hen farm in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, and the quarantine authorities started urgent quarantine measures.

According to the city of Cheonan on the 11th, an H5 type AI antigen was detected as a result of testing after receiving a report of suspicion of AI that there was an increase in mortality at a laying hen farm in Pungse-myeon on the morning of the 11th.

The farmhouse where the AI suspect was confirmed is about 10km away from the laying hen farm where the AI occurred on the 3rd, and about 54,000 laying hens are being raised.

The quarantine authorities are conducting close inspections to confirm whether they are highly pathogenic, and are carrying out quarantine measures such as killing about 54,000 animals in breeding.

Four farms are raising about 280,000 poultry within a 500m radius of the farmhouse.

High pathogenicity is expected to come out in 1-3 days.

Earlier, from the 3rd to the 7th, the city of Cheonan killed more than 327,000 poultry raised at the laying hen farms in Yongjeong Complex in Pungse-myeon, which were finally confirmed with highly pathogenic AI (H5N1), and 6 farms located within a 500-meter radius.
