    South Korea's agricultural ministry said Thursday it has confirmed four additional cases of highly pathogenic bird flu, raising concerns over the further spread of the disease in the country.

    Of the new cases, one case each was confirmed in Pocheon, Paju, Icheon, and Anseong the previous day, all in Gyeonggi Province that surrounds the capital city, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

    A seven-day standstill order has been issued on all poultry farms in the four areas.

    South Korea reported its first H5N8 strain of avian influenza from local farms in nearly three years back in November...

    With farms in South Korea having to destroy millions of chickens because of bird flu, Asiana Airlines has flown in 20 tons of eggs to help stabilize the supply and therefore the price of eggs.
    Prices have risen sharply as farms culled nearly 22 million birds since late November to stop the highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza.

    SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's agricultural ministry said Monday it has completed destruction of 21.7 million poultry since late November to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic bird flu at farms.

    The total number of confirmed cases of the H5N8 strain of avian influenza here reached 73 on the previous day, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

    South Korea's agricultural ministry Wednesday confirmed yet another highly pathogenic bird flu case traced to a farm, with the total caseload of confirmed infections reaching 68.

    The latest confirmed case of the malign H5N8 strain of avian influenza came from an egg farm in Eumseong, 131 kilometers south of Seoul, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

    The farm was raising 400,000 chickens. Authorities have issued a seven-day standstill order on all poultry farms in Eumseong.

    The country confirmed another case from a farm in Yongin, just south of the capital city, the previous day.

    Gyeonggi Province that surrounds Seoul accounted for 18 cases and North and South Jeolla Provinces had 14 and 13 cases, respectively...

    South Korea's agricultural ministry said Wednesday it is currently investigating six suspected cases of highly pathogenic bird flu amid no signs of a letup in the spread of the disease.

    The country's total caseload of the H5N8 strain of avian influenza traced to farms has reached 53 since it reported the first such infection in late November in nearly three years, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

    The latest suspected case came from an egg farm in Cheonan, 92 kilometers south of Seoul.

    Gyeonggi Province that surrounds Seoul took up 14 cases so far, followed by provinces of North and South Jeolla with 11 each...

    South Korea's agricultural ministry said Tuesday it has confirmed two more cases of the highly pathogenic H5N8 strain of bird flu on poultry farms.

    The latest cases were reported from a farm in Goseong, about 470 kilometers south of Seoul, and a farm in Namyangju, just north of Seoul, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

    Authorities culled poultry within a 3-km radius of the infected farms as part of preventive measures and issued a standstill order in nearby farms for 30 days, the ministry said.

    In addition, all poultry farms in Goseong and Namyangju are under a standstill order for seven days...

    South Korea on Monday confirmed another case of highly contagious bird flu in poultry, raising the total caseload to 43, authorities said.

    Samples from an egg farm in the central city of Cheonan tested positive for H5N8 strain of avian influenza (AI), the agricultural ministry said. The case was reported to the authorities on Sunday, Yonhap reports.

    The authorities culled all chickens within 3 kilometers from the infected farm as a precautionary step and imposed a monthlong movement ban on farms within 10 km.

    It marks the 43rd case since the country reported the first outbreak in nearly three years in November...

    South Korea's agricultural ministry said Monday it has identified a new suspected case of highly pathogenic bird flu, amid the growing concerns over the disease further straining the local poultry industry.

    The new suspected case was reported from a duck farm in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

    The country has so far reported 29 farm-related avian influenza cases since late November, including an infection from a guest ranch.

    South Jeolla Province accounted for eight cases, and Gyeonggi Province, which surrounds the capital city, took up seven.

    The latest case was confirmed from a duck farm in Gurye, 422 kilometers south of Seoul, on Sunday...

    SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korea confirmed two more case of highly pathogenic bird flu in poultry Wednesday, raising this year's total caseload to 21 amid growing concerns over the disease spreading across the nation.

    The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said it has identified an avian influenza (AI) of H5N8 strain at a fowl farm in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, just south of Seoul. The farm was raising about 4,700 ducks and 100,000 quails.

    It was the 20th such case since the nation confirmed this year's first outbreak of farm-related AI in late November...
