Emergency epidemic conference at the first detection of avian influenza virus
    (Ehime prefecture)

In response to the first detection of avian influenza virus in the prefecture, the prefecture opened an urgent epidemic conference and confirmed the thoroughness of the epidemic prevention. At the prefectural office the officials of the prefectural animal health department officials participated in the prevention conference on avian influenza. This epidemic meeting was held urgently in response to the first detection of avian influenza virus from feces of wild birds collected by the Ministry of the Environment on the mouth of Samjo city Kamogawa on 26th. Although the detected virus was low pathogenic, it was confirmed that the conference was thoroughly premeditated at the conference because the type of virus is the same as that of high pathogenicity with high mortality rate and it may mutate to highly pathogenic. In prefecture, as a preventive measure against infection, poultry farmers are calling for poisoning net in chicken farm to check damage and thorough disinfection etc.

A low pathogenic avian influenza virus (H5N3 subtype) was detected in the mouth of the Kamogawa river in Saijo city, Ehime prefecture, and the prefecture gathered relevant officials and held an epidemic conference to thoroughly take countermeasures I agreed to do. It was the first time that avian influenza virus was detected in the prefecture.
According to the prefecture, the virus was found in a periodic survey of the Ministry of the Environment. Two out of 20 specimens collected on 26th October found a low pathogenic virus with a low mortality rate and contacted on 29th. Virus confirmation for domestic season is the ninth example including highly pathogenic. This is the second case with low pathogenicity.
In prefectural countermeasure manuals, it is supposed to call attention to poultry farmers etc. within a radius of 1 kilometer. Although there were no corresponding farmers this time, even if it is low-pathogenic, if it occurs in poultry farms etc., it is necessary to take measures similar to highly pathogenic such as killing.
Twelve employees, including livestock hygiene centers, attended the conference held at the prefectural government. Mr. Hiroshi Saeki, chief of animal husbandry department, said, "We are taking the first confirmation in the prefecture seriously and want to do our utmost to prevent it from occurring on the farm." Following the report of the occurrence situation, we confirmed that the information was provided to 151 poultry farmers in the prefecture. At the meeting, we asked the poultry farmers to inspect and repair the gap of the poultry house so that small animals would not intrude, ▽ to thoroughly disinfect when entering the poultry house and cars.
