The avian flu is spreading across Japan, with a black swan at an Aichi Prefecture zoo apparently becoming the latest to become infected.

The swan at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Nagoya had a positive reaction to a simple flu test on Tuesday. The swan died later in the day.

Tottori University will take one week to confirm the results of the test.

The swan had lived in a pond in the open air near the main gate, where wild birds can fly in and out.

    December 12, 2016 (Mainichi Japan)

NAGOYA (Kyodo) -- Three black swans that have died at a zoo in Nagoya since late last month were all confirmed to have been infected with avian influenza, the Aichi prefectural government said Monday.

The infections at Higashiyama Zoo Botanical Gardens in the central Japan city are the second case in the country this year in which birds kept at a zoo were infected, after one at Akita Omoriyama Zoo in northeastern Japan.

Other birds at the zoo that were possibly in close contact with the swans have been isolated and will not be culled, a zoo official said.

The facility closed its zoo area Sunday...
