  • Japan - Bill to repay disease-struck livestock farmers

Bill to repay disease-struck livestock farmers

The Japanese government is revising a law so that farmers who have to cull their livestock following an infectious disease outbreak will be fully compensated....

......The revisions call for full compensation for livestock culled in an outbreak, instead of the current 80 percent.
Farmers who fail to promptly report an outbreak or take measures to prevent the spread of a disease will either be only partially compensated or not compensated at all.
The same rule will be applied to poultry farmers following an outbreak of avian flu or other infectious diseases.......
