    Bird flu in Gazipur
    1.5 lakh poultry birds being culled

    Authorities in Gazipur's Kaliakoir upazila started culling more than 1.5 lakh poultry and destroying 5 lakh eggs from Monday night after an outbreak of bird flu was confirmed.

    The order came after tests showed that poultry at a privately-owned farm, Bay-Agro Industries Ltd, in Telirchala had died of avian influenza.

    Around 150 workers had been engaged in killing the infected fowls.

    Major (Rtd) Anisur Rahman, owner of the farm, said he noticed that fowls started dying in his farm since December 20.

    Later, samples of the dead poultry were sent to Dhaka for laboratory test through Gazipur district livestock hospital.

    As the tests confirmed the presence of bird flu virus in the samples, Gazipur district authorities gave instructions to the district livestock department to cull the birds and damaging the eggs...

    GAZIPUR, Dec 25 (UNB): At least 0.15 million fowls, infected with the bird flu virus, were culled and 0.25 million eggs destroyed at a poultry farm in Kaliakoir Upazila from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon.

    Dr Md Habibul Haque, Animal Resources Officer of Gazipur said, the decision to cull all the birds was taken on Monday soon after the avian influenza (bird flu) virus was detected at 'Bay Agro' poultry farm, owned by Maj (retd) Anisur Rahman.

    Several hundred fowls died at the farm on Saturday and Sunday, officers of Bay Agro said...

      DHAKA: Bangladesh’s livestock authorities are slaughtering around 150,000 chickens at a giant poultry farm near Dhaka after the worst outbreak of avian flu in five years, officials said Wednesday.

      The deadly H5N1 strain of flu was detected at Bay Agro farm at Gazipur, 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of Dhaka, on Monday after dozens of chickens died, prompting the company to send samples to a laboratory for tests...
