Anti-Nuclear Groups Protest Proposed Manhattan Project Park
                    By JOHN MCARDLE of Greenwire
                    Published: July 19, 2011

A plan to create a multi-state national park dedicated to the top secret project to develop an atomic bomb during World War II has drawn the ire of anti-nuclear groups that believe the government shouldn't be in the business of celebrating the creation of a weapon of mass destruction....
There already is a park 'honoring' the legacy of the atomic bomb.
                    http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1...hattan-project

That mismanaged mess in a park in the Chicago suburbs left behind by the Manhattan Project resulted in picnickers, including children, drinking radioactive water and playing in a radioactive stream for decades, until an activist group called 'Broken Arrow' camped out in front of the area and got the government to finally clean it up. One of the original Manhattan Project scientists was part of the activist group.

The government never studied the population who drank from the wells and played at the park, but I have heard there were many pediatric cancers, birth defects like spina bifida, and many other cancers. They would have been the perfect population to study to learn about the effects of low level radiation upon humans.

So maybe they should just designate Red Gate Woods as their atomic bomb park.

The well water that families were using is still radioactive.
