Tremors exceeded design limits for 3 reactors
The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station says 3 of the plant's 6 reactors were shaken on March 11th by tremors exceeding forces they were designed to withstand.
The Tokyo Electric Power Company, known as TEPCO, says reactor No.2 suffered the largest horizontal ground acceleration of 550 gals, which is 26 percent stronger than the reactor's design limit.......
Beef from a village in Fukushima Prefecture that had tested positive for excessive radioactive cesium has been cleared of contamination in a second test.
Japan's health ministry says Friday's new round of testing did not detect any trace of cesium in meat from the same cattle......
Tokyo Electric Power Company has released new video footage of the Number 4 reactor building at its damaged Fukushima complex.
The utility firm shot the video using a camera installed on the tip of the long arm of a special construction vehicle....

Radioactive Water Leaks from Japan Nuclear Plant Into Pacific Ocean
TOKYO -- A Japanese nuclear official says highly radioactive water is leaking from a damaged nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean.Nuclear safety spokesman Hidehiko Nishiyama says the air above the leak contains 1,000 millisiverts of radioactivity. Exposure to 500 millisiverts over a short period of time can increase the risk of cancer.
Tokyo Electric Power Company says it has identified for the first time a place where high-level radioactive water is leaking into the ocean from the No. 2 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
The power company said on Saturday that water has been seeping from a crack in the wall of a 2-meter deep pit that contains power cables near the reactor's water intake........
Radioactive iodine twice the country's legal standard has been detected in seawater at a location 40 kilometers south of the disabled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Re: Japan - Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Crisis - Units 1 - 6 Reports, News, Graphics - March 17 +
1,000 millisieverts per hour equals 1 sievert per hour, which is at the lower end of a fatal dose. A dose of 6 sieverts over a short period is nearly 100% fatal within a matter of days or weeks. Also, that measurement was taken in the air above the water. Contact with the water itself could deliver an even higher dose.
If somebody hasn't confused millisieverts (0.001 Sv) with microsieverts (0.000001 Sv), then that's the most alarming news I've heard since the reactor buildings exploded.
I hope there is a mistake in the units because data have been reported in both mSv (millisieverts) and uSv (microsieverts) and the media has been throwing around both terms, probably not realizing that 1 mSv equals 1,000 uSv.
