    Press Release (Apr 13,2011)
Detection of Radioactive Materials from Seawater near Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (21st release)

    ...

On April 12th, 2011, we conducted sampling surveys to evaluate the spread
of radioactive materials which were detected at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear
Power Station. Since the radioactive materials were detected as shown in
the appendix, we informed NISA and the government of Fukushima Prefecture
    of the results.

Yesterday's seawater sampling surveys at 6 locations 15 km off the coast
of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station were deferred due to bad
    weather.

We will continuously conduct the same sampling surveys.

The results of nuclide analyses of radioactive materials in the air at the site of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (19th release)

    ...

On April 12th 2011, we conducted nuclide analysis of radioactive materials
contained in the air which were collected at the site of Fukushima Daiichi
Nuclear Power Station on the same day. As a result, radioactive materials
were detected as described in the exhibit. Accordingly, we have reported
the result of analysis to Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency and
    Fukushima Prefecture.

We are planning to conduct these surveys continuously.

Out flow of fluid containing radioactive materials to the ocean from areas near intake canal of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 (continued report 9)

    ...

On April 12th, 2011, we collected samples from seawater in the pit and in
front of the bar screen near the pit. As a result of the nuclide analysis,
radioactive materials were detected as described in the exhibit.
Accordingly, we have reported the result of analysis to NISA and Fukushima
    Prefecture.

Please note that the sampling point was changed from in front of the bar
screen of Unit 4 to the north and south sides of the water intake canal of
Unit 1-4 due to the installation of the silt fence.

    Press Release (Apr 12,2011)
The results of nuclide analyses of radioactive materials in the air at the site of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (18th release)

    ...

On April 11th 2011, we conducted nuclide analysis of radioactive materials
contained in the air which were collected at the site of Fukushima Daiichi
Nuclear Power Station on the same day. As a result, radioactive materials
were detected as described in the exhibit. Accordingly, we have reported
the result of analysis to Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency and
    Fukushima Prefecture.

We are planning to conduct these surveys continuously.

    Press Release (Apr 12,2011)
Out flow of fluid containing radioactive materials to the ocean from areas near intake canal of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 (continued report 8)

    ...

We have been conducting sampling of seawater in front of the bar
screen near the pit. In regard to the sample collected yesterday
(April 11th), as a result of conducting nuclide analysis, radioactive
materials were detected as described in the exhibit. Accordingly, we
have reported the result of analysis to Nuclear and Industrial Safety
    Agency and Fukushima Prefecture.

Regarding the results on three nuclides (iodine 131, cesium 134,
cesium 137), we would like to assume those as definite result,
however, as for other nuclides, we will revaluate in accordance with
the preventive measures formulated after being given warning from
Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency on April 1st.

Detection of Radioactive Materials from Seawater near Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (20th release)

    ...

On April 11th, 2011, we conducted sampling surveys to evaluate the spread
of radioactive materials which were detected at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear
Power Station. Since the radioactive materials were detected as shown in
the appendix, we informed NISA and the government of Fukushima Prefecture
    of the results.

We implemented seawater sampling surveys at 11 different points of 6
locations 15 km off the coast of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
yesterday. We have also informed NISA of the evaluation results of the
    surveys.

We will continuously conduct the same sampling surveys.

    Press Release (Apr 12,2011)
Rating of the trouble at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station due to Tohoko-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake on INES (International Nuclear Event Scale)

We sincerely recognize that the trouble at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power
Station due to Tohoko-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake has been
provisionally rated at level 7 on INES (International Nuclear Event Scale).

We deeply apologize for the public's distress and inconvenience at the
surrounding areas of the power station, Fukushima Prefecture, and broader
    society.

In order to resolve the situation as soon as possible, we will proceed to
cool the reactors and to prevent the diffusion of radioactive materials.
In addition, we are considering various countermeasures and their
processes. Cooperatively working with the national and local governments,
we will concentrate all our resources to resolve this difficult situation.

    Press Release (Apr 12,2011)
Fire at the sampling equipment at the water discharge channel, Units 1-4, Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (2nd release)

At approximately 6:38 AM, April 12th, fire has been found at the
distribution switchboard containing batteries located in the sampling
equipment switchbox situated close to the south water discharge channel
for Units 1-4. The self defense fire fighting team conducted the fire
fighting at an early stage. At the same time, at approximately 6:45 AM,
we reported to the Futaba fire authorities.
As a result of the fire fighting, it is confirmed that the fire has been
under control without fire or smoke.

There is no impact on the external release of radioactive substances or on
the cooling capability of the reactor from this incident. There has been
no change on the monitoring figures of the surrounding environment.
We will continue monitoring the status of the plant and the surrounding
environment around the Power Station. We will investigate the cause in
    detail.
    (Previously announced)

The Futaba fire authorities confirmed fire extinguishment on site survey
at 9:12 AM, April 12th. We will investigate the cause in detail.

Japan May Raise Nuke Accident Severity Level To Highest 7 From 5

TOKYO (Kyodo)--The Nuclear Safety Commission of Japan released a preliminary calculation Monday saying that the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant had been releasing up to 10,000 terabecquerels of radioactive materials per hour at some point after a massive quake and tsunami hit northeastern Japan on March 11....
I wonder if that was related to the peak seen in western WA state shown on the graph here?

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...nitors06m.html
"Isotope levels spiked on March 20, when iodine-131 activity measured about 4.5 millibecquerels, or 0.12 picocuries, per cubic meter of air. The biggest peak appears to correspond with the initial hydrogen explosions at the Japanese reactors, Miller said. Subsequent explosions generated a much smaller peak that reached Seattle about nine days later. Since then, levels have diminished to the point that they will be undetectable in a day or so, Miller predicts."

Reactor on fire, another quake hits Japan
    Posted 11 minutes ago

Crews are said to be fighting a fire at Fukushima's No. 4 reactor (AFP/Jiji Press)
A fresh fire has reportedly broken out at Japan's stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant after a strong aftershock hit eastern Japan this morning.

The Reuters news agency quoted the plant's operators as saying crews were fighting a fire at Fukushima's No. 4 reactor.

    ...

Unconfirmed reports that the fire was in the battery storage building, did not affect the reactors and is already out.
