  • Thailand Confirms 2 Cases of Zika-Linked Birth Defects

BANGKOK?Thailand confirmed Friday that two infants have microcephaly related to infections of the Zika virus, the first such cases to be announced in Southeast Asia where health authorities have been tracking outbreaks in several countries.
Dr. Prasert Thongcharoen, adviser on disease control to Thailand?s health ministry, told a news conference that tests have confirmed Zika infections in two cases of microcephaly, while more tests are needed to determine if microcephaly in a third infant could also be related to the virus.
Separately, a pregnant woman was confirmed to have the Zika virus but it hasn't been determined if the unborn baby has microcephaly, Dr. Prasert said.
