(Hong Kong) The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) announced today, 2nd October, that it is investigating a confirmed case of Mpox, commonly known as Monkeypox, involving a 43-year-old man. The CHP has urged the public to exercise heightened vigilance and to avoid close physical contact with individuals suspected of having the virus. High-risk groups are particularly encouraged to receive Mpox vaccinations.

The patient, who has a history of good health, developed a skin rash on September 24. He sought medical attention at the Wan Chai Male Social Hygiene Clinic on 25th and 27th September and is currently in stable condition, having been admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital.

According to the patient, he had travelled to Thailand and Taiwan during the incubation period and was exposed to high-risk situations in both locations. Initial investigations have not revealed any epidemiological links between this case and previously confirmed cases in Hong Kong. The CHP is continuing its epidemiological investigations and will report the case to the World Health Organization.
