KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The government has confirmed the reappearance of monkeypox (Mpox) in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a 36-year-old man from Tanahun district has tested positive for the infection.

The man, who returned from Saudi Arabia on Thursday, underwent a lab test at the National Public Health Laboratory Teku, said Ministry spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki.

He is currently receiving medical care in isolation at the Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, and his condition is out of threat...

On August 14, 2024, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared monkeypox (mpox) a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) following an unexpected surge of mpox infections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and due to its potential for broader transmission. This is the second declaration of mpox as a PHEIC within two years. In July 2022, mpox was first declared a PHEIC due to its rapid spread beyond Africa.
