President Tran Dai Quang died due to 'rare and malicious virus'

Tough to imagine what this is. It seems he had this virus for about a year before dying, and it says they can treat this, but not cure it. I don't see any evidence that he was in isolation for the past year, so the assumption is that this isn't something spread easily H2H. Also, there doesn't seem to have been any hesitancy to transfer the patient out of country for treatment. It also seems like the doctors knew what the patient had, even if the reporters aren't publishing it.

HIV/AIDS comes to mind, but if this is that, why didn't they say it. If one assumes "virus" is a machine translation of something like "agent", then something like XDR-TB might be suspect.

Without mention of any symptoms, it's tough to take a guess.
