    Five Danes in the first nine months been suffering from blood poisoning caused by swine bacterium MRSA CC398. The new figures from the Statens Serum Institut.

    Despite the relatively low number of seriously ill, according to one of the country's leading experts, however, already too late to turn the bacterium into the Danish piggeries, where it has spread dramatically.

    May end more Danes in the coming years to become sick of the resistant bacteria that prevent the most common types of antibiotics from working.


    - Five years ago, the incidence of MRSA CC398 relatively low among pigs. There could have handled it with isolation of the herds, trade barriers and restrictions. But now the bacteria so prevalent in Denmark, it is unrealistic, estimates professor and research director at the National Food Institute, Frank Aarestrup.

    In all, 815 Danes from January to September this year was diagnosed with the resistant bacteria. However, scientists have estimated that only in the case of tip of the iceberg. A total of 12,000 home believed to have been infected.
