MRSA outbreak hits Heidelberg, four cases confirmed

TIFFIN ?Twenty Heidelberg University students have reported symptoms associated with a staph bacterial infection, and medical personnel have confirmed four cases of MRSA at the private, liberal arts school in Seneca County.
The outbreak?s first report came Aug. 24, according to Heidelberg?s spokesman, Dustin Brentlinger, the dean of student affairs who is overseeing the university?s response to the situation.
Those affected by the outbreak have been mostly student athletes who play contact sports, making them more susceptible to skin abrasions and cuts, he said. The four confirmed cases have all been athletes...
