Hardly any new locations with SBV in sheep reported; number of reported new locations with SBV in cattle seems to slow down.

For this year the SBV problem seems to be almost over on sheepfarms in the Netherlands. It is slowing down on cattlefarms, but not over yet.

Netherlands: Schmallenberg virus confirmed in 244 farms

          Update april 6, 2012

Number of suspected premises : 1,385

Number of confirmed premises : 244

          Cattle holdings: 132

8 cattle holdings were found to be positive from bloodsamples taken last autumn. These holdings are NOT included in the total number
Testing of more cattle-samples from last year revealed positive results of 70% . It is not know yet how what % of positive cows had malformed calves.

          Sheep holdings : 106

Preliminary testresults indicate sheep in affected areas probably are positive for 70% or more.

          Goat holdings : 6

13 April: Schmallenberg virus: further update on GB testing results

There are now 243 UK farms reporting SBV: 28 in cattle and 215 in sheep. This is an increase of only four farms since before the Easter break. All farms are within the recognised risk counties in England.

The decline in the numbers of reporting farms is in line with all EU Member States, where the sheep reports have declined as lambing in ?at risk? sheep (those at a critical time of gestation when infection can impact on the foetus) draws to an end. This is also in line with Defra?s own predictions considering UK farming practices and estimated time of infection occurring in the UK. We continue to expect to see cases in cattle into early summer.

20 April ? Schmallenberg virus: further update on GB testing results

There are now 249 UK farms reporting SBV: 32 in cattle and 217 in sheep.

This is an increase of two farms in cattle and two farms in sheep.
