</td> </tr> </tbody></table> BELGRADE, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Montenegro has banned imports of all poultry products from Serbia due to an outbreak of Newcastle disease in the former sister republic, Serbia's B92 radio reported on Sunday.
Montenegrin authorities made the decision after the Newcastle disease outbrea<!--ADV_CONTENT-->k was confirmed by the World Organization for Animal Health, the reports said, citing Montenegrin veterinary directorate chief Ivan Popovic.
Newcastle disease, a milder version of bird flu, is highly contagious among birds but poses no hazard to humans. However, humans are known to develop conjunctivitis after contact with contaminated poultry meat or eggs.
Since late November last year, more than 5,000 affected poultry of various kinds died of Newcastle disease or were destroyed in central and northern Serbian villages.
Serbia's Veterinary Directorate has established protection zones and surveillance zones around the outbreak villages. Intensive vaccination has begun with the financial support from the Serbian government.
