A new outbreak of bird flu in eastern Gers, 5,000 animals slaughtered

Gers
Avian flu is still active in the Gers. A new outbreak was detected in the east of the department, near Auch; 5000 animals were slaughtered.
We thought the epidemic was almost over, obviously it is gaining new territories in the Gers: an outbreak of bird flu was detected last weekend in a farm in Castelnau-Barbarens, near Auch. The 5,000 ducks and poultry from this farm were slaughtered. As always, a security perimeter is set up; but this is an area that is relatively sparse in breeding. Since the start of this avian flu episode, 65 outbreaks have been detected in the Gers.
The epidemic is spreading
This may worry the Gers breeders, which until now the outbreaks of avian flu were mostly "contained" in the west of the department , on the border with the Landes. They are now also found in the south and east of the Gers.
Consequence of the new outbreak detected in Castelnau-Barbarens: the Saramon slaughterhouse is shut down until further notice because it is located in the same sector.
