The Friedrich Loeffler Institute ( FLI ) confirmed today, December 22nd, the suspicion of avian influenza in a fattening turkey farm in Lower Saxony. At the farm in the district of Oldenburg, 13,000 animals are affected by the H5N8 virus, a highly contagious subtype of bird flu . The killing of the 13,000 animals has already been ordered, based on the district's avian influenza ordinance.
