    Canine flu confirmed at Humane Society Cal Area; 98 dogs sick; shelter closed

    Test results have confirmed that a sick dog at the Humane Society Calumet Area (HSCA) Adoption and Intake Centers in Munster has tested positive for the canine flu virus, HSCA said on Thursday.

    Preliminary test results from samples sent to the lab earlier this week tested positive for Canine Influenza A H3N2 and nearly all of the 98 dogs housed at the shelter are showing symptoms of the virus. The strain appeared first in Chicago in 2015, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, and is still flaring up in the Chicago area.
