Over 900 pigs culled in foot-and-mouth outbreak
    Mar 28,2018
Foot-and-mouth disease has struck a pig farm near Seoul, officials confirmed Tuesday, leading quarantine officials to slaughter more than 900 animals.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said Tuesday that a rare A-type virus form of the disease was found in Gimpo, 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) northwest from the capital city.

The farm on Monday reported a suspected case, and the sick pig tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease.

Following the initial test, quarantine officials limited the movement of animals and livestock breeders in the nearby region for 48 hours and culled over 900 pigs at the affected farm as preventive measures, the ministry said.

(LEAD) S. Korea detects additional FMD case at pig farm
      2018/04/02 15:52

(ATTN: CHANGES headline, lead; UPDATES with outbreak of additional case in paras 2-6)

SEOUL, April 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has detected an additional case of foot-and-mouth (FMD) disease at a pig farm west of Seoul, near the farm that reported the first case this year, the agriculture ministry said Monday.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said it has detected an additional FMD outbreak at the farm in Gimpo, 30 kilometers northwest of the capital city, during an inspection into its livestock.

The ministry said it is conducting an in-depth analysis into the farm of about 3,000 pigs to figure out its link with the nearby farm.

South Korea confirmed an A-type FMD case in a farm in Gimpo on March 27, leading to the culling of over 900 pigs at the affected farm as a preventive measure.

It was the first time that the highly infectious animal disease had been detected at a pig farm since the previous case in South Chungcheong Province two years ago...
