BEIJING (AFP) - A new case of foot-and-mouth disease was discovered this week in China's northwestern province of Gansu, the country's agriculture ministry said in a statement.
Tests confirmed Wednesday that seven breeding cows in the village of Doucheng had the disease, according to the statement.
Authorities have killed the cows and 82 other cattle, sheep and pigs.
Foot-and-mouth is a highly contagious viral disease among animals, which does not generally cause death but can hit milk and meat production.
China reported the last cases of the disease in November 2006.
