    East Flores (ANTARA) - The East Nusa Tenggara Animal Husbandry Service reported that 233 pigs in the island-based province died suddenly from December 2022 to January 2023.

    'The data we have received is that 233 pigs in the NTT region were reported to have died suddenly by pig farmers,' said Head of the Animal Health Division of the NTT Provincial Animal Husbandry Service Melky Angsar when contacted from Adonara, East Flores, Monday.

    He said this was related to the development of cases of sudden death of a number of pigs in NTT which were feared due to African Swine Fever (ASF) or African Swine Flu.

    Melky explained that the 233 cases were spread across six urban districts in East Nusa Tenggara and the most cases were in Kupang district with the most cases.
    He mentioned that the pigs that died in Kupang Regency based on the latest data on Friday (20/1) last week the number of pigs that died reached 51 heads.

    Meanwhile for the city of Kupang there were 45 pigs, East Flores 33 pigs, Sikka district 41 pigs, Ende district 43 pigs and Southwest Sumba 20 pigs.

    'This is official data that has been submitted to the Provincial Animal Husbandry Service from the Regency/City Office. Data beyond the above figures, I am not responsible for,' he said.

    He added that the East Nusa Tenggara Animal Husbandry Service prepared 39,200 liters of disinfectant to be distributed to local governments who needed it to prevent the spread of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus or African Swine Flu.
