    African swine fever reported in Manipur, illegal import of pigs blamed
    Last year, the African swine fever killed many pigs in Assam, subsequently the import of the animal was prohibited in Manipur.

    The contagious African Swine Fever (ASF) has been reported in Manipur, said officials, assuring that the situation is under control. Director of state veterinary and Animal husbandry Dr Chaoba Singh said that the disease has been detected in the Salungpham area in Thoubal district and Nongmaiching Chingkhong(Wakha) area in Imphal East district.

    “So the said areas have been sealed and sanitised. One km radius of the area has also been contained to prevent further spread of the disease,” Dr Chaoba said. “The surveillance is going on within 10 km radius of the areas too.”

    Singh suspected the illegal import of pigs as the reason behind the disease.

    Last year, the ASF killed many pigs in Assam, subsequently the import of the animal was prohibited in Manipur...

    87 pigs die in Mizoram village near Bangladesh border, panic over ASF suspicion

    More than 80 pigs died in south Mizoram's Lunglei district over the last two weeks, triggering panic in the area that is near the Bangladesh border, an official said on Sunday.

    The 87 deaths, which happened in the Lungsen village, have caused losses to the tune of ?40 lakh, he said.

    "Though the cause of the deaths is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the animals died due to African Swine Fever (ASF)," said Lalhmingthanga, the Joint Director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department...

      African Swine Fever confirmed to be cause of pig deaths in Mizoram

      Aizawl, April 13: African Swine Fever has been confirmed to be the cause of death of over 600 pigs in Mizoram, officials said today.

      A high-level meeting was chaired by animal husbandry & veterinary minister Dr K Beichhua to discuss the outbreak of African Swine Fever that has claimed the lives of 671 pigs across Mizoram till today.

      Officials of the department informed the meeting that samples sent to National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal tested positive for ASF. ?Further confirmation to identify the serotype through genome sequencing is still awaited,? they said...

        4 Mizoram districts declared swine fever epicentres

        The viral disease has killed more than 1,000 pigs in less than a month

        Certain areas in four districts of Mizoram have been declared as epicentres of the African swine fever (ASF) that has so far killed 1,119 pigs in a month.

        Joint Director (livestock health) of the State?s Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Lalhmingthanga said Lungsen village and Lunglei Electric Veng in Lunglei district, Armed Veng and Edenthar areas in Aizawl district, Keitum village in Serchhip district and Vaipi-I in Siaha district have been marked ASF epicentres.

        ?Five of Mizoram?s 11 districts ? Aizawl, Lunglei, Serchhip, Mamit and Siaha ? are currently affected by ASF. Mamit has not been declared as an epicentre although some ASF-related pig deaths have been reported there,? he said.

        The first pig deaths were reported from Lungsen village on March 21. ASF was confirmed as the cause of death on April 16 by the Bhopal-based National Institute of High Security Animal Disease laboratory...

          The African Swine Fever (ASF) continued to wreak havoc in Mizoram, killing 4,650 pigs and piglets in a little over two months, an official said on Saturday.

          The ASF outbreak has caused a loss of Rs 18.60 crore to the farmers of the state, said Dr Lalhmingthanga, the Joint Director (Livestock Health) at the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Department.

          The first pig death due to ASF was reported on March 21 at Lungsen village in south Mizoram's Lunglei district, bordering Bangladesh, he said...

            African Swine Fever (ASF) continues to wreak havoc in Mizoram, with 10 out of 11 districts currently affected by the dreaded swine fever. Over 9,000 pigs have died in three months, according to the state’s animal husbandry and veterinary science department.

            According to data released by the department on Sunday, at least 152 villages or local areas in 10 districts are currently affected by ASF, which has claimed a total of 9,172 pigs since March, causing monetary losses to the tune of over Rs. 36.68 crore.

            Besides, the unusual death of 699 pigs was reported outside ASF infected areas, it said. Though the cause of death is suspected to be ASF, it is yet to be confirmed, the department added.

            The official data also said that 1,078 pigs have been culled so far to prevent the disease from spreading further.

            The first pig death due to an unknown disease was reported at Lungsen village in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district bordering Bangladesh on March 21...

              GUWAHATI: Hundreds of domestic pigs have died due to the spread of African Swine Fever in many areas of Darrang. The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department of Assam has stopped the slaughter, sale and consumption of pork from these areas for three months. The area has been declared an Infected Zone by the department.

              Mainly, three villages of Akalibari, Borompur and Bahjani in Darrang District have been affected by the fever. Farmers who rely on pig farming as a source of livelihood are the most affected. As soon as the fever started affecting the pigs, farmers started culling them to save the others...
